Botox Surgery Checking And Understanding Cosmetic Operation Before Diving In

Advancing technology and medical procedures have introduced new and better types of cosmetic surgery. Techniques have expanded to take care of the requirements of aging men and women. Not happy with the way you look right now, then you have available different surgeries to help you find the right benefits for you. But you need to know what is currently available to make a decision for having cosmetic surgery. One such treatment out of all the possibilities is known as Botox. Though Botox does not offer permanent cosmetic surgery, it does provide a possible solution for anyone dealing with an aging and wrinkling face.

Botox is a method to remove wrinkles commonly found in the face and neck area. It has become increasingly popular over the past decade in the cosmetic surgery field. Botox is a natural protein that is produced by a bacterium. Botox can remove wrinkles, strain lines, and other problems with the skin.

Botox can also efficiently treat all areas of the face. It started being used for lines above the forehead that moved either vertically or horizontally. It was also used to remove crow?s feet that normally appear on the sides of the eyes. Now, Botox has also been shown to help remove lines around the lip area, chin, and neck. Botox treatments can be given to all of these areas on the same visit which is a huge benefit and time saver.

Botox also helps relieve contracting muscles in the face and neck area. It is injected in small quantities into the area where the wrinkles are to be removed. The injection is painless and you can see the results in about three days. However, it is a temporary solution and commonly begins to disappear after about four months. So you would need to get your face retreated with Botox approximately every four months. This can be done as many times as you want to with your doctor?s approval however.

Botox, even though effective, is not a substitute for other more permanent cosmetic surgeries. Because it is a temporary solution ! and it d oes not permanently alter the face, it is often considered a separate cosmetic surgery. It also does not affect anything other than the wrinkles on the face. Bags and drooping eyelids need something different and that requires a separate surgery.

Botox is a new and growing treatment for anyone who wishes to improve lines that are on their face. Using Botox, you are able to change the wrinkles that appear on your lips, neck, eyes, or forehead area. If you are thinking about using Botox, it is wise to first learn about the procedure and the possible side affects. Understanding how Botox works is an important step in making up your mind if it is a cosmetic surgery procedure that will be worthwhile for you.

If you are just searching for a quick fix before a special event, or family pictures are taken, then Botox might possibly be a consideration for you.

Skin Cancer Do You Visit Tanning Salons?

One of the main causes of skin cancer is exposure to harmful sun rays. If you thought that getting tanned at tanning salons was safer than the sun, please think again before visiting any salon again. Tanning beds and sunlamps are as dangerous as the sun rays.

Most of the bulbs used in the salons emit both UVA and UVB radiations that are also found in the sunlight and are responsible for both Melanoma and Nonmelonoma types of cancers. Exposure to tanning bulbs also reduces our body's ability to repair the damaged DNA, which is caused by UV radiation.

Tanning not only may cause cancers as the last damage but also prematurely ages the skin. How many of us realize that tanning is body's response to damage to the skin. every time, you get tanned , you accumulate skin damage. There is no such thing as safe tanning.

Unfortunately the cosmetic trends are pushing more women to tanning salons. More people are inviting cancer for the sake of the tanned look. Melanoma can kill if not diagnosed earlier. Unfortunately the young population is not changing its behavior about getting tanned. as they accumulate skin damage over the years, their getting affected by skin cancer at later stage of their life is increasing.

If you are one of those who believe that a tan is good and that tanning beds or sun lamps are safe, please stop using them. You are putting your life to a very painful death.

Mesothelioma Prognosis The Science of Recovering Lives

A brief on Mesothelioma

A whopping 2,000 to 3,000 new cases of mesothelioma is on the rise in United States of America. Mesothelioma is a rare form of cancer and it is an aftereffect of the asbestos exposure. The cancerous cells tend to destroy the mesothelium, which is a protective sac that holds the internal organs of the body. Initially, pleura or peritoneum are affected and then it spreads to the other parts of the body. It is a fatal disease and the survival time of the victim is almost one year from the time of diagnosis depending on the treatment and other contributing factors.

What is mesothelioma prognosis?

Prognosis for mesothelioma is solely dependent on the merit of diagnosis and the treatment. If treatment is provided with much delay then the survival chance of the victim grows slimmer. Then again, survivability depends heavily on factors like treatment, type of mesothelioma as well as patients health and morale. The stage of the disease during diagnosis is the most crucial factor that decides the prognosis and the minimum survival expectancy of the victim. But disappointingly, mesothelioma unlike other cancers is somewhat difficult to stage. This is because the symptoms of mesothelioma are non-specific due to which the cells are already matured at the time of diagnosis.

What are the determining factors that lead to prognosis?

The early detection of the disease is imperative for pursuing any kind of treatment. The location and size of the cancer, response of the cancer to the treatment, the extent to which the cancer has spread, what impression does the cells give under the microscope and the patients age are some of the contributing factors that determine prognosis. It should be pointed out that diagnosis of the disease is not a child?s play. Further more it becomes all the very more difficult because of the deceptive nature of the subtle symptoms of mesothelioma. Like for example, if you are coughing and you might never know that you have contracted the dis! ease unl ess and until your doctor clarifies it all by providing a mesothelioma prognosis.

Do you know about the mesothelioma treatment options?

Amongst the staging systems the oldest of them all is the Butchart system, based on the extent of mass, primary tumor and segregates the cancer into four stages. The TNM system is a more recent one while the Brigham system is the latest. It uses resectability and lymph node involvement for staging mesothelioma. The traditional kinds of treatments are also prevalent in case of malignant mesothelioma. Radiation therapy exercises high-energy X-rays to eradicate cancer cells while chemotherapy does it through use of drugs. Immunotherapy helps to strengthen the immune system; photodynamic therapy uses light energy while the genetic therapy resurrects the inherent genetic defects of the patient to fight the disease.

The process of removing fluid from the chest is known as thoracentesis while fluid reduction from the abdomen is known as paracentesis. Conventional surgeries and effective drugs like L-NDDP or Platar, Endostatin and Lovastatin somewhat come to the rescue of the victims of mesothelioma. The surgical removal of a part of the chest or the abdominal lining is called pleurectomy and if the lung is removed, then the operation will be termed as pneumonectomy.

Acne Alternative Treatments

There is no clear account of the number of people suffering from acne. But the sale of medicines for acne is on the increase and this suggests that there is an increase in the number of people having acne. Acne is caused mainly due to the clogging of the oil generated by the skin. This clogging is initiated by a particular type of bacteria. Most treatments and ointments available for acne concentrate more on removing the scars. This means that the bacteria responsible for acne still remain there. This has led to people looking for alternative acne treatment. Most of the alternative acne treatment mainly tries to eliminate the bacteria responsible for acne.

One of the greatest advantages with the alternative acne treatments is that they are devoid of side effects. There are several herbal combinations that have proven track record of curing acne. Once such herbal combination is the paste made of basil leafs and sandalwood. Another popular alternative acne treatment is the application of the paste made of strawberry leaves. There are several other herbal combinations available in the market that can effectively cure acne.

The main reason for the cause of acne is the deficiency of essential vitamins needed for the skin. Deficiency in Vitamin A, Vitamin E and Pantothenic Acid can lead to acne. Taking large amount of vegetables, fruits and vitamin supplements can cure acne. There are several cures of acne in naturopathy. Herbs, skin cleansers and vitamin supplements are the main treatments for acne in naturopathy. Another advantage of alternative acne treatment is that they are less costly.

Walking is the Best Exercise

Running, jogging, weight lifting, calesthenics. These are all good for keeping in shape but walking is still the most simple, and effective, of all exercises to lose weight and stay in shape and maintain good health.

Approximately 67 million Americans of all ages walk for exercise regularly. Walking can be done with friends or alone. And it can be performed outside or inside.

Walking helps the metabolic system to control weight, regulate blood sugar, and cholesterol levels. A brisk walk burns up to 100 calories per mile.

Walking is an aerobic exercise meaning that it uses oxygen. A brisk walk increases oxygen intake to the blood, strengthens the heart, improves circulation and lowers blood pressure.

For people with poor circulation in the arms and legs, walking can help to increase the size and improve the efficiency of the tiny blood vessels that supply blood to the cells.

Walking slows development of all forms of arthritis, degenerative joint disease, stops loss of bone mass in osteoporosis, and tones the muscles.

Walking helps recovery from back pain.

For women walking reduces premenstrual and pain during periods.

Regular walking also relieves and prevents constipation.

Psychologically, walking generates an overall feeling of well-being because it produces endorphins, a natural tranquilizer. This aids in relief of depression, anxiety, and stress.

To get the most benefit from walking, 30 minutes of walking must be done at a brisk pace without stopping. Gradually increase time to 40 to 60 minutes for each session.

Always stretch muscles and warm up before walking.

Wear walking or running shoes that fit snugly but not too tight, support the arch and lift the heel slightly. Replace your walking shoes every 6 months or 600 miles, whichever comes first.

In hot, cold and inclement weather consider getting a treadmill for walking indoors.

Recommended Treatments for the Different Stages of Colon Cancer

Treatment of Stage 0 Colon Cancer

Treatment of Stage 0 colon cancer (carcinoma in situ) may include the following types of surgery:

? Local excision, which is surgery to remove the colon cancer without cutting through the abdominal wall.

? A polypectomy, which is surgery to remove the colon cancer from the bulging piece of tissue.

? Resection/anastomosis, which is surgery that removes the colon cancer by taking out a section of the colon and rejoining the cut ends of the colon. This procedure is done when the cancerous tissue is too large to remove by local excision.

Treatment of Stage I Colon Cancer

Treatment of Stage I colon cancer is usually resection/anastomosis (removal of colon cancer by joining the cut ends of the colon) because the cancerous tissue is usually too large at this stage to be removed by local excision.

Treatment of Stage II Colon Cancer

Treatment of Stage II colon cancer may include the following:

? Resection/anastomosis

? Clinical trials of chemotherapy, radiation therapy, or biological therapy after surgery

Treatment of Stage III Colon Cancer

Treatment of Stage III colon cancer may include the following:

? Resection/anastomosis with or without chemotherapy.

? Clinical trials of chemotherapy, radiation therapy, and/or biological therapy after surgery.

Treatment of Stage IV Colon Cancer

Treatment of Stage IV colon cancer may include the following:

? Resection/anastomosis

? Surgery to remove parts of other organs such as the liver, lungs, and ovaries where the cancer may have spread.

? Chemotherapy.

Fight Obesity Prevent Diabetes

Overweight and obesity, one of the major risk factors for the development of type 2 diabetes. Obesity is the main modifiable risk factor for 90 per cent of all cases of diabetes. Levels of overweight are increasing dramatically among children, resulting in more and more childhood cases of type 2 diabetes, a condition that until recently affected primarily adults. The aim of the campaign is to convey the message that simple and inexpensive lifestyle changes such as increased physical activity and healthy food choices can be effective in countering the serious human and social consequences that would result from a worsening of the diabetes epidemic.

Obesity results when the size or number of fat cells in a person's body increases. When a person gains weight, these fat cells first increase in size and later in number. Overweight and obesity can cause diabetes, and contribute to high blood pressure, high cholesterol, infertility, birth complications and arthritis. Obesity is largely preventable through changes in lifestyle, especially diet.

Obesity is most commonly assessed by a single measure, the Body Mass Index (BMI), which uses a mathematical formula based on a person's height and weight.

Waist circumference is also increasingly recognized as a simple means of identifying obesity. This measurement in combination with BMI has shown to be the best predictor of obesity and its associated health risks.

The twin epidemics of diabetes and obesity already represent the biggest public health challenge of the 21 st century. It is no longer possible to rely only on management and prevention strategies that focus on the individual. Responses are required at the population level as well. Since major changes in both physical inactivity and food explain the development of the obesity and diabetes crisis, rational measures to address both issues are needed. The epidemic of obesity and diabetes has developed in spite of decades of national and local efforts to emphasize the value of `balanced! diets' and to stress the importance of moderate daily exercise. Health education should, therefore, also be designed to support other measures. These include:

? Providing children with a wide variety of physical activities.

? Appropriate urban environments that encourage healthy lifestyle habits for all.

? Teaching healthy eating habits and providing nutritious foods in schools

? Monitoring the weight of children.

? Food labelling.

? Smaller portion sizes.

? Lower prices for healthy foods.

It is important to establish strong national systems and partnerships that enable governments, civil society, and the private sector to evaluate and implement effective new policies. Given the epidemic of obesity and the increased incidence of diabetes that is likely to follow, systems to ensure annual monitoring of diabetes prevalence in populations should be established. It is already late, but a global effort can be made to transform diets, encourage less dependence on motorized transport, and promote efforts to restore physical activity into our daily lives.

The Time to Act is now!

How To Act Like You Have The Muscle You Want

Your subconscious mind cannot distinguish between a real event and a make believe event.

What this means is, if you begin acting as though you have the ideal body of your dreams, soon enough your bconscious mind will begin working to realize those actions and will begin creating the picture you hold to be your ideal body.

Act as if you're already as muscular as you want to be, act as though you have all the energy in the world, and act as though your self-confidence is soaring through the roof.

Begin to act as if you've already accomplished the goals that you've set for yourself.

The reason this step is important is for you to start feeling the awesome feelings you?ll have permanently if you achieve the goals you've set for yourself.

If you act as though you're already muscular, your subconscious mind cannot distinguish between whether or not you are or are not.

The more you start flooding your body and mind with feelings of energy, strength, confidence, joy, happiness, and other positive feelings, you?ll begin to link pleasure with this entire process.

When you begin to act as though something imagined is real, you start to gravitate to those feelings and the actual accomplishment of those goals.

I know that sounds a bit foolish, but it?s true. In fact, it?s a proven fact that if you believe something to be absolutely, undeniably true for a long period of time, you can actually convince yourself that it is true.

For example, studies have been done with the lie detector (polygraph) machine in which they?ve tested people telling the truth and also people telling what they knew to be lies but that they believed strongly that it was the truth.

The polygraph machine could not distinguish between the two readings, of the group telling the truth and the group telling lies.

The people that were told to absolutely believe what they knew was not true had the same readings on the lie detector as the people actually telling the truth.

So wha! t does a ll of this mean.

You can talk yourself into believing anything. So why not talk yourself into feeling, acting, and being lean and muscular.

Sooner or later, by acting that way, your brain will seek out and begin to take the necessary steps to actually accomplish that goal.

As much as this seems like mental hogwash, its a simple fact that if you begin to act with absolute conviction that something has happened or is occurring, your brain cannot distinguish if it really did happen or not.

Hey, if you like the feelings you get from having a rock-hard physique, why not become more muscular?

Just because you've identified what you want doesn?t mean you're done there. Are you totally convinced you can achieve it?

Have you made the leap from knowing what you want to believing it's within your reach?

In fact, you can identify the fact that you want a new job, but until you choose to go after one, you will not put forth the conscious effort.

Even after I had identified the fact I wanted to enter a show, I had to make the choice to go all out for this specific show and commit to the rigorous training and dieting that it would entail.

It wasn?t enough just to identify that I wanted to do this show and win, I had to choose to go after it with everything I had.

I chose to stick with an insane diet, I chose to put my workouts ahead of any social time, I chose to do anything and everything I had to do to give me a chance to win this show. I had now made the conscious choice to go after what I wanted.

Identifying what you want is not enough. You must choose to go after it, to start the chase.

So once you begin acting like you have the muscle mass you want, you have to take action and do those things that will create it in reality.

Asbestos Relation To Mesothelioma

Asbestos is a mineral that has been used through the centuries for many items including lamp wicks, napkins, burial clothes, and table clothes and is mined from metamorphic deposits. When used for its resistance to fire, the fibers of asbestos are typically woven into mats or fabric or mixed with cement.

It was formally used in electric ovens for its electrical insulation and in the construction of buildings for its flame-retardant and insulating qualities. Also its flexibility and resistance to chemicals made it popular in constructing buildings. In ancient times items made of asbestos were held to be at par with items made of gold. It was generally used to wrap bodies when people were burnt after death to keep the ashes of the body separate from the woods and other burning materials.

After the discovery that asbestos was tied to numerous cases of lung caner and Mesothelioma, the removal of asbestos that had been used in houses and other buildings became common. This was procedure proved to be difficult because anyone in the building at the time of removal had to be relocated and the surrounding atmosphere had to be contained as to not allow the removed asbestos be released into the air.

Along with the removal of asbestos a gargantuan amount of lawsuits were filed against owners of buildings and producers of the insulating asbestos causing many companies to declare bankruptcy. Even to this day, many cases of asbestos are being reported and the development of treatments to the illnesses such as Mesothlioma causes are being created.

Body Building Basics Building a Better Body you can be Proud of!

There are as many varied opinions on what ?plan? one should follow to build muscle, as there are people who have those opinions. On one thing they do agree, however. You must have a regimen.

?You can begin by defining your objective.

?Why are you interested in body building?

?What do you hope to accomplish?

?What is your ultimate goal?

It?s all about commitment and belief. There is an abundance of information about how to begin and conduct your journey, but without a burning desire to achieve, you are doomed to inevitable failure.

The following tips are not intended to be a ?one size fits all.? Take from it what you will. In that light, consider the following list:

1. Before beginning any serious weight lifting or body building regimen, consult your physician.

2. Set your goals. Define what you expect to achieve with your new bodybuilding campaign within a realistic time frame. If you create goals that are unattainable you are setting yourself up for failure. You can become bored, disappointed and disillusioned to the point where you may give up. This is a very sad outcome to what might have been the best decision of your life. Don?t sell yourself short. Set your long-term goals, of course, but also set short-term goals that are achievable. And, don?t forget to reward yourself when you do achieve them.

3. Consider the costs. If you don?t already have a budget, create one. Then, determine what amount of discretionary funds you have available for your bodybuilding program. This will determine whether you can afford to have a home gym or if your needs would better be served by joining a club. Joining a club is still a good short-term introduction before spending hundreds or thousands of dollars on equipment that might not be appropriate for your needs.

4. Don?t forget some of the low cost alternatives to purchasing your bodybuilding equipment. If used equipment is still functional why spend the extra dollars just for a little glitz! Good, brand n! ame used equipment is every bit as functional as something right off a showroom floor.

5. Consider combining a home gym along with a membership in a public facility. Purchase less expensive free weight equipment for use at home and join a gym to have access to the more expensive equipment. You can design your entire workout routines around a combination such as this.

6. Eat healthy! This can?t be stressed enough. The only true bodybuilding aids are good nutrition. Consult a licensed dietician. Watch your local community calendar for free seminars on diet and nutrition. Learn all you can about what nature freely provides that can help you to develop a healthy diet.

7. If you choose to use dietary supplements, make certain that you know what you are putting in your body. Follow the packaging guidelines we outlined above. Ask your physician for his/her recommendations based on the regimen you have selected. No friend, coach or acquaintance can take the place of your physician. In fact, you may even investigate finding a physician who specializes in sports wellness.

8. Be kind to yourself. Yes, it?s important to push to achieve your goals, but it?s very easy to tip the scales in the other direction and create a nightmare for yourself. Obsessive, compulsive behaviors are not conducive to a healthy bodybuilding lifestyle.

Why Tanning Saloons Are The New Beauty Destination

Tanning is so much in fashion that tanning saloons are mushrooming everywhere. Young men and women frequently visit tanning saloons and use their tanning beds much more often than they did earlier.

Due to its popularity and the health issues related with it, government has laid down many regulations for tanning saloons and tanning beds. While home tanning is convenient and readily available, tanning saloons have some unique advantages including variety and safety.

There are five advantages of a tanning saloon over home equipment. These are:

1. Tanning saloons follow government regulations: Tanning saloons seek the approval from FDA for the tanning procedures and use of tanning beds and strictly follow them. They keep client's record and history.

Tanning salon operators ascertain client's ability to tan, history of sunburns, history of skin infections, rashes or other conditions and use of certain medications or cosmetics to prevent phototoxic and photo-allergic reactions. A tanning expert will use this information while planning your tanning exposure on the tanning bed of tanning saloon.

2. Use of Equipment Under Expert Guidance: At the tanning saloons, you use tanning beds and machines under the guidance and care of tanning experts. Well-trained tanning bed operators have thorough knowledge of the equipment and they can program the tanning bed according to individual client's need. They will indeed control your dose of ultraviolet light and save you from its harmful effects.

3. Better Tanning beds: Tanning Saloons are equipped with sophisticated commercial tanning beds. Commercial tanning beds are more comfortable and safe. They have programmable knobs to control the amount and intensity of ultraviolet light.

You also have control on the tanning bed, especially to switch and open it, when feeling uncomfortable. Tanning salons also have additional equipments like an Oxygen Bar. This releases oxygen, which reacts with the skin and enhances the production of mel! anin for a better tan.

4. Various tanning modes: Tanning Saloons offer many tanning options. Besides tanning beds, they offer tanning booths, tanning lotions and tanning spray. These alternate methods are for the people who dislike the tanning beds. These alternate tanning options are often a better choice, especially if you are in a hurry.

5. Safety and Style in tanning saloons: Safety devices such as protective goggles are available in tanning salons for safe tanning. They also have tanning accessories such as tattoos and protective clothes. Tanning tattoos create stylish designs on the body by excluding the tattoo area from tanning.

It is therefore evident that while home tanning may be easier and simpler, professional tanning is more effective, safe and flexible. You may like to keep this in mind while weighing your tanning options and use the tanning beds.

Women: You Are Beautiful Despite Your Hair Loss!

When a man begins to lose his hair, it is the cause of jokes amongst friends as well as an increase in hat purchases. As embarrassing as it may be for an individual, male hair loss is a very socially accepted condition. When a woman starts to notice thinning hair, it is another matter entirely. There are no sitcom jokes about a balding woman character, there are no bumper stickers aimed at females with hair loss, and there are no commercials telling women that there are options and that you're not alone. Our culture is simply silent on the subject.

The fact is, however, that there are over 30 million women with thinning hair. That's one out of every five females. But none of them are prepared for it. It comes as a complete shock due to the lack of information on the subject.

Female hair loss, like its male counterpart, is largely caused by genetics. If there is a history of hair loss in your mother, grandmothers, and aunts you may be susceptible to hair loss yourself. Other causes include heavy stress and illness as well as diets and medication.

If you're a woman in the 20% suffering from hair loss, the first thing to do is stop panicking. Stop stressing out. It only makes it worse. Your hair doesn't own you. Don't let it. Your friends will still be your friends. You won't lose your job. And the men who date you will actually be interested in you and not just your appearance.

So you're working on your attitude. You're learning to live with it. But that doesn't mean you have to just accept it. There are options out there to help you fight back.

Rogaine is the most popular treatment for balding men. There is also a Rogaine available for women. It'll cost you under $50 a month and has been clinically proven to help reduce hair loss. If you stick with it you just might see your hair loss slow down and, in some cases, even revert.

Propecia is another medication that is FDA approved to treat hair loss. It requires a prescription, however, so make an appointment with your ! doctor s oon.

You can also look into wigs as a way to hide your thinning hair. Obviously this doesn't fix the problem, but it will make your life much more bearable. A good wig can be expensive, so it is up to you to decide how important it is.

By far the most important thing to remember, however, is that you are as beautiful as you ever were. In a culture that forces women to fit a mold, you may feel outcast. Don't let it change your life. You will find true people who will support you. You will find a man who will see past your thinning hair. Don't lose hope. And remember there are 30 million other women going through the same thing!

Ian Byrd hosts a website dedicated to balding treatments, with articles specializing in female hair loss.

What Is Normal About Hair Loss?

It is important to note that shedding of hairs is a natural process with anything from 100 to 300 hairs randomly shed each day. In this article we'll look at two distinct aspects of normal hair loss. Firstly, we'll examine what is actually involved in the hair growth cycle. Secondly, we'll assess the natural progression of hair loss over time.

Hair is composed of long, twisted keratin fibers that are protected by a coating of keratinized cells. Just below the surface of the skin lies a cluster of active cells known as the dermal papilla and it is from here that the hair grows into its follicle.

This growing fiber eventually hardens and grows out from the scalp. At this stage the hair fiber is dead with only the root tip containing living cells.

In a little more detail, the hair growth cycle, consists of three distinct stages:

1. Anagen stage - a phase of growth that can last between two and seven years. On average, each hair grows about six inches (15cm) per year.

2. Catagen stage - a phase of transition that lasts roughly two to four weeks. At this time the hair shaft detaches from the dermal papilla and moves up within a shrinking follicle.

3. Telogen stage - a resting period that lasts about three months allowing the hair to detach itself from the follicle before falling out. After this, the cycle repeats itself unless other factors intervene to prevent repetition of the cycle.

Clearly time has a role to play in the development of hair loss for both men and women. Humans are born with varying amounts of soft and fine body hair. Through time some of this hair becomes stronger and develops further characteristics such as colour and texture. Up to the onset of puberty the hairline is characterized by a low spread across the forehead. For men, this continues only for a few more years.

As men progress through their twenties the hairline takes on a more mature look typified by recessions to the frontal temporal regions and accompanied by slight thinning els! ewhere. This concave appearance doesn't necessarily equate to premature balding as it is all a question of degree.

The Norwood Scale is an extremely useful tool in developing a hair growth strategy as it allows you to establish your own degree of hair loss in a way that is understood by physicians and other hair loss experts. More importantly, it can help to set your mind at rest and allow you to differentiate between normal hair loss that does not require remedial action and more extreme loss that calls for immediate action.

You can assess the extent of your own hair loss by following the link below.

Chest Massage

Chest massage is helpful in many ways. It strengthens the chest muscles, increases circulation, and tones up the nervous system of chest, heart, and lungs. It is especially recommended in weakness of the lungs, palpitation, and organic heart disorders. Bust and mammary glands can be developed by proper massage.

The patient is made to lie on the back with the arms at the sides. The masseur starts manipulating the chest by means of strokes with both hands on each side of the breast bone. A circular motion is formed by the movement made up and down, moving down the chest.

Next the muscle kneading is done by picking up the skin and muscles with both hands. Treatment is given to both sides of the chest likewise. Circular kneading is next done by placing one hand on each side of the breast bone and making the circular motion outward towards the side.

Tapotement follows by hacking and slapping.

The Facts About Lung Cancer Better To Be Aware

Keep yourself abreast of facts about lung cancer, as the statistics of affliction are staggering and in most cases, lung cancer can even be prevented. Cancer, the dreaded disease, is a malady marked by the uncontrolled growth of abnormal cells, which rapidly destroy healthy tissue. Although changes in the lung begin almost immediately upon exposure to carcinogens, lung cancer takes years to develop.

In fact, Mesothelioma research news states that the period of the onset of Mesothelioma cancer could be from 10 to 60 years from the time of exposure to asbestos.

What Do We Know About Lung Cancer So Far?

Lung cancer facts indicate that most people afflicted with the disease are those over fifty who have been smoking for a long period. Research news points out that the symptoms of lung cancer are dependant on several factors, including the location of the tumor in the lung. A chronic cough, repeated lung infections, wheezing, chest pain - any or all of these may be indicative of lung cancer.

Cigarette smoke, with its high concentration of carcinogens, inhaled by both smokers and nonsmokers is the leading cause of lung cancer. Facts about environmental exposure to Radon compounded with smoking increases the risk of lung cancer. Another principal cause of lung cancer is occupational exposure to carcinogens like asbestos, which has been documented in many Mesothelioma lung cancer cases.

Treatment of lung cancer is currently limited in its efficacy. Different types of carcinomas involve different regions of the lung, giving rise to different symptoms, and requiring different lines of treatment.

Lung cancer treatment is also different in cases where cancer cells spread from other organs to the lungs. Apart from surgery, radiation therapy and chemotherapy in cancer treatment, oncogene research results are positive in their efforts to find drugs that turn off the abnormal genes, ending cancer growth.

Lung cancer statistics are in your hands - Do something about it.

Yoga for Men

All social categories and age groups can appreciate yoga as a relaxation method or even as a life style choice. Yoga practitioners investigated the physical and mental differences between men and women for a protracted time. In general, men are known to be less emotional than women and they frequently suppress their emotions. This can lead to stress and, eventually, to an increased hazard of heart problems.

A man's greater level of physical strength is accepted by most committed yoga practices. This is why several of the poses recommended for men require additional muscle strength and endurance. Numerous male yoga practitioners have discovered that a mixture of yoga and weight training can equip them with the required levels of energy and positive thinking. In many cases, the balance between mind and body is broken by various harmful exterior factors such as stress, pressure, social problems and so on. The tight link between body and soul can be regularly seen in such cases: if the spirit is defeated, the body will often get ill and debilitated.

This is why the more physical aspects of yoga are greatly recommended for men. Society imposes certain standards - and keeping fit and looking good are just two of them. In order to possess self-confidence and respect for your own self you need to take care of your body correctly. Some of the yoga poses you will read about further on in this article are fabulous for keeping the body in perfect physical condition, particularly when a balanced and healthy diet is adhered to. Needless to say physical yoga training greatly reduces the likelihood of several illnesses such as lowered blood pressure, heart attacks and osteoporosis.

Yoga also favors meditation and relaxation as some of its most effective shields against stress. Half an hour of stretching your muscles and deep breathing can take any yoga practitioner into a condition of serenity and relaxation that gives both mind and body the opportunity to renew their vitality. Particular yoga poses! such as the head stand are superb for assisting circulation and allowing the heart rate to drop. This type of position also forces you to breathe deeply, thereby improving brain oxygenation. Another comparable pose would be the shoulder stand, which enhances the positive effects of breathing by improving the lung's capacity to process oxygen. Both these poses are beneficial to the spine as well, as they allow it to stretch and relax at the exact same time. The plough pose may also be tried in order to strengthen the abdominal and lower back muscles. Savasana, also known as the corpse pose, is excellent for relaxing the body between asanas.

The above-mentioned poses have to be accompanied by some specific breathing techniques. The Anuloma Viloma technique balances the prana levels in the organism and is recommended for use while doing physical exercises. The Ujjayi breathing method clears the nasal passages and throat of phlegm and allows for a superior air circulation. This technique also works well for improving the responses of the nervous system.

Ultraviolet Radiation and Skin Aging

Points of views about ultraviolet radiation (UVR) are contradictory: from the very beginning the UVR was considered beneficial, then opinions have changed. It is clear now that UVR has a significant effects on skin, and people have found that excessive exposure affects collagen, giving a weather-beaten appearance.

At the same time the truth is that body loses 1% of its collagen a year, whether the skin is sun exposed or unexposed. So even people will stay out of the sun action, the skin will still age.

What kills people is ignorance and a failure to inspect your skin for the tell tales - a factor probably done better when you are naked.

I would think most naturists are more conscious of these risks because they are akin to sunlovers and interestingly one report I read highlighted the risk of melanoma on the soles of feet as this was one place people never look at closely and lets face it how much sun does the soles of your feet get relative to the rest of you - although I recall one friend who took great delight in doing handstands on the beach but I digress.

Sun lotion clearly does protect skin (just observe the faces of past cricketers) but at the same time commonsense can do much the same in cases where sun exposure is limited. If you have constant level of high exposure which clearly will do damage - the truckie's arm ( an Australian example) is a good example of that as well. I also recall a 43 year old Belgian woman who had much of her youth in the Med but had also spent several years in North Africa. She still had the body of a 20 something but the face of a much older woman.

Listerine Toenail Fungus Treatment

You?ve heard of the mouthwash, but have you heard of the Listerine toenail fungus treatment? It seems that a lot of people are soaking their fungal toenail infections in a basin of Listerine and getting good results. Like people who use other home remedies for this unpleasant infection, people who swear by this oral rinse tried it because they were trying to avoid expensive prescription drugs and their side effects, or had tried the other treatments with no success. Apparently it worked.

If you?re using Listerine for toenail fungus, be prepared to keep it up for a while ? though some people claim the remedy works after soaking for 30 minutes a day for just a few days, most fungal toenail infections will take months to clear, whether you?re using Listerine, vinegar, or any of the prescription drugs. It just takes a long time for the fungus to die and the new, uninfected nail to grow in. Use it every day ? never skip a day ? and in a month or two, you should see some healthy nail growing in. Don?t stop using Listerine for toenail fungus until the entire nail is new and looks healthy and normal.

Many people find that when it comes to treating nail fungus Listerine and vinegar combined offer even faster results. Fungi do not do well in an acid environment, so adding vinegar to Listerine may give your home remedy a little extra punch, combining the acidic vinegar with whatever is in the Listerine (presumably the disinfectant) that kills the fungal infection. Some people have had good success mixing a half-and-half solution and just painting it on the infected nails several times a day.

There?s no guarantee that the Listerine toenail fungus treatment will work for you. It doesn?t work for everyone, and no published scientific studies have looked at the effects of using Listerine for toenail fungus, or gathered data on the number of people who used it successfully. If you have the time and the inclination to try it, however, it is certainly much cheaper than prescription drugs that can cost! eight d ollars a day, or even more, to use.

A solution that?s safe to put in your mouth is presumably perfectly safe for soaking your feet. It might even feel good! But if you?re going to try Listerine for toenail fungus, you should be aware of one potential side effect: it seems that it may turn your feet green! Temporarily.

Those With Disabilities Often Have Abilities in Other Things

Have you ever noticed that people who have let's say hearing disabilities seem to have their other senses more keen or can do something else better than others? One thing I have always found dealing with people of let's say a disability is that they are generally able to make up for it somewhere else.

For instance if someone's eyesight is gone they have great space unused in their visual area which takes up let's say 55% of the brain's over all bandwidth, thus this extra capacity is now available for something else? Now then let's talk about Autism, which I do not believe Autism is a disability or even a disease really, as it seems that those with Autism have their brains wired just a little different than the rest of us and so their minds work different?

Well, then if these children do not do some things well at younger ages, what do they do well? You see what I mean? What can they do that the rest of society cannot do? The reason I bring this up is that when talking to parents of Autistic Children it appears to me that their biggest complaint is in the public school system where their children are treated stupid or as if they are dumb.

We as a society should not buy into this line of logic or allow our opinions of Autistic Children or Citizens to be jaded by this and we need to understand that wherever there is a negative there is always a positive, as really that is the natural order of things. And thus dismissing members of our society too easily we all lose in the end. Consider this in 2006.

Alcohol Abuse How to Start Helping Yourself First

They say that the first step to solving a personal problem is to admit that you have just that-a problem. While this is somewhat true, especially when the problem is alcohol related, you need to slowly work yourself to some desired goal, whether it's to stop drinking all together, or to moderate your consumption (which a doctor can help you decide based an overall health analysis).

Back in college (or university), there was a track coach (who eventually coached the Olympic team) who told his runners that you had to visualize your goals, and in your mind, watch yourself run the entire race in optimal form. He also told his runners to write down their goals in a small journal each and every day.

When this is applied to someone suffering from alcoholism or abuse, it may help him or her substantially control certain drinking habits. For the first entry in your stop drinking journal, write down the reason that you want to cut down or abstain from alcohol. You can either write it in paragraph form or make a list that you'll be able to read clearly if you ever need reminded. The list may include such reasons as: to sleep or get along with my family better, or to improve health.

Next, as the track coach would have his runners jot down their goals, so should you. Each and every day you should limit your alcohol intake to only one or two glasses, and no more. Write down this goal for each new day in your journal. And, if you don't think you can start there, go ahead and create a chart that diagrams how much drinking you do each week.

Be honest with yourself and record how much you've drank each and every day. After three to four weeks, see how much you've consumed. And, if you feel able, share this information with your doctor, then s/he will help you assess if your drinking is should be considered problematic (which is usually a male who drinks more than two drinks per day, and a female who drinks more than one).

So, instead of allowing yourself to be victimized by your own emotio! ns or se lf-control issues, start taking control with this simple step. If you're not sure that you have a problem, but you feel like you might, then chances are you do.

So, don't make excuses, monitor yourself daily. Once you're ready, perhaps you can share your material with your doctor or other professionals (or a therapy group) who understand what you're going through.

Let's Start Screening For Breast Health

In the United States, American women are told to begin annual mammographic screening for breast cancer at the age of 40. Long before we?ve reached this age, we are advised to perform a monthly breast exam and see our doctors for a clinical breast exam (CBE) annually as well. However, the detection rate of breast cancer for CBE is only 47% when the tumors are less than 1 centimeter while mammography has given us a 70% detection rate. By the time a tumor is detected by palpation or found mammographically, it has already been growing and developing for 8-10 years.

Mammography has a high false positive rate. Only 1:6 biopsies are found to be positive for cancer when performed due to a positive mammogram or CBE. This places additional stressors on women who undergo these procedures.

Other risks of mammography include the radiation that each breast is exposed to during a mammogram. During a chest X-ray, a person receives 1/1000 of a RAD, or radiation absorbed dose. This type of X-ray is a high energy X-ray. During a mammogram, however, the X-ray used is a low energy X-ray and results in 1 RAD or a 1000-fold greater exposure than a simple chest X-ray. It has been suggested that the low energy X-ray used may cause greater biological damage which is cumulative over time. In a journal entitled Radiation Research and published in 2004, the author concludes that the risks associated with mammography screening may be FIVE times higher than previously assumed and the risk-benefit relationship of mammography exposures need to be re-examined.

In 1982, the FDA approved thermography as an adjunctive tool for breast cancer screening. Digital Infrared Thermal Imaging, also known as DITI measures heat emitted from the body and is accurate to 1/100th of a degree. Certified Clinical Thermographers follow strict guidelines and transmit their scans for interpretation by board certified thermologists. DITI examines physiology, NOT structure. It is in this capacity that DITI can monitor breast HEA! LTH over time and alert a patient or physician to a developing problem; possibly before a lump can be seen on X-ray or palpated clinically. There are no test limitations such as breast density. Women with cosmetic implants are great candidates for thermography which emits no radiation and no compression. Contact is never made during a thermographic scan.

Clinical research studies continue to support thermography?s role as an adjunctive tool in breast cancer screening and the ONLY tool that measures breast health. There are now more than 800 publications on over 300,000 women in clinical trials. A recent finding published in the American Journal of Radiology in 2003 showed that thermography has 99% sensitivity in identifying breast cancer with single examinations and limited views. Scientists concluded that a negative thermogram is powerful evidence that cancer is not present.

In conclusion, women need to begin breast health screening early; as young as age 25. This can provide women with the earliest possible indication that further investigation is necessary. It takes approximately 15 years for a breast cancer to form and lead to death. If ?early detection is the best prevention,? let?s start using technology that truly allows for the earliest possible alert to a developing problem.

Thermographic screening is not covered by most insurance companies but is surprisingly affordable for most people. For more information or to find a certified clinic in your area, go to www.proactivehealthonline.com.

Helpful Tips to Keep in Mind for Those Afflicted with Xeroderma Pigmentosum

Xeroderma pigmentosum is a rare medical condition whereby individuals are unable to have direct contact with the sunlight and other sources of ultraviolet rays. Although it is classified as a rare disorder, it is one that is particularly burdensome and serious for those afflicted with xeroderma pigmentosum. The following paragraphs will provide some general tips for those afflicted with this condition to keep in mind.

Avoid All Ultraviolet Light Whenever Possible

As the symptoms individuals experience are due to direct contact with sunlight and other ultraviolet light sources, the most important guideline to follow is to avoid all contact with ultraviolet light. This is the best way to attempt to control symptoms from occurring due to the xeroderma pigmentosum.

Maintain Copies of Diagnosis

It is important that other individuals who need to know about the xeroderma pigmentosum have copies of the doctor?s diagnosis. This will help to ensure that all necessary measures are taken to keep the individual out of the sunlight.

Obtain Handicapped Parking Decal

Should it be necessary for the individual with xeroderma pigmentosum to travel in the car, it is extremely important that the individual and their family have a handicapped parking sticker for the vehicle. This will enable them to get the closest spot possible and avoid any prolonged sunlight exposure.

Keep Necessary Receipts

Receipts which come from the purchase of necessary items for the individual with xeroderma pigmentosum should be saved for tax reasons. Since these are necessary items for one?s survival, they may be able to be deducted when one files their tax returns.

Find a Doctor Who Has Evening Hours or Makes House Calls

Since this medical disorder is one of a special nature, one may be able to find a doctor who is willing to schedule late evening appointments or come to the house for medical visits. This will help to prevent the individual from getting into the direct sunlight to go i! n for an office visit.

These are just some things which may help the individual with xeroderma pigmentosum to deal with their medical condition in the best way possible.

Dr. Will Horsley M.D.

Dr. Horsley is Cornea fellowship trained and Lasik board certified by the American Board of Eye Surgeons, (http://www.aces-abes.org) in addition to being Board Certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology. Other refractive surgeries performed at the Horsley Eye Center are Conductive Keratoplasty, (to restore reading vision after 40), clear lens exchange, (for sever hyperopia), and the intra ocular contact lens or ICL for extremes of myopia untreatable by laser refractive procedures.

Besides doing all the LASIK procedures for the LASIK Vision Institute, Dr. Horsley also treats his own private patients from his private office in Stoneham. The private patients are all treated EXCLUSIVELY on the VISX STAR 4 laser with active track 3-D eye tracking and WaveScan WaveFront System. The tracker can measure and incredible five times for each pulse of the laser, and shuts the laser off in a 50th of a millisecond should movement exceed the trackers range of motion, the computer that directs the laser remembers where it left off, so the procedure can resume without any adverse effect if the patient needs to cough or sneeze or just inadvertently moves.

Many have read in the lay press of so called SUPER VISION, besides basic optical errors, (standard spero-cylindrical), all of us have some non-standard optical aberrations, (spherical, comma, trefoil), that degrade our vision. With the WaveScan WaveFront System and the Visx CustomVue Platform, these aberrations can be measured and corrected, greatly enhancing the basic optical correction. Each of us has a WaveFront finger print so to say, that can be customized on an individual basis for a refined personalized treatment. The human retina has a resolving capability of around 20/10 vision, but is seldom achieved due to these optical aberrations. The WaveScan WaveFront System has lead to a statically significant improvement in our corrections, many patients actually achieving better than 20/20 vision, in the 20/15-20/10 range.

Dr. Horsley conducts! a free monthly seminar on refractive surgery and also offers free no obligation refractive evaluations. Holiday 2005 Make Up Tips

There are some great new looks out this fall and holiday season. If you?re planning on going out, you?re probably looking for a new or different look. I?ve compiled several of my favorite styles for this season to help you choose the one that will best fit your situation and needs.

Focus On The Lips

This look is all about your lips. Whether you use a bright jeweled lip color or a matte frost, remember to use a gemstone color. They?re hot this season. Amethyst, ruby, gold, garnet, plum, etc. are all great colors. Try to use a color a few shades darker than your usual lip color.

Don?t do much else but add mascara to your top lashes only. This look is complimented by loads of mascara. You can also add a neutral color to the crease of your eyelid. (The crease of the eyelid is becoming a popular style.)

Line It Up

Do you love eyeliner? Looking for something new and exotic? This is the holiday make up tip for you. It?s all about eyeliner.

Using a dark eyeliner pencil, lightly trace where you want your liner on both the top and bottom lids. Then take black eyeshadow and mix it with a little hydrosol, water, visine, etc. Using a thin eyeliner brush, dip it in your creamy eyeshadow mixture and trace over the eyeliner pencil line. Keep your line very thin. You?ll find it?s easier to trace over the line than to do it freehand.

Now for the fun part. You?ll see a space where your top and bottom lashes meet. Place your eyeliner brush there and draw it outwards. Make a curve as you pull it away. You?ll get a ?cat eye? look and your line will go from thick to thin. You?ll get perfect placement every time.

Then add some baby pink blush just to the apples of your cheeks. Using a brush the same size of the apples of your cheeks works best. Smile and place your brush against your apple. Does it look too big, too small or just right? You?ll be able to tell when you?ve got it right. Tap the excess blush off and tap it onto the apples of your cheeks. It?s easier if you?re smil! ing whil e you do this. Dust your brush off on a piece of tissue then gently blend the blush back towards your ear a bit.

For your lips, avoid the gloss. Use a matte or a matte frost in the now popular color of pink with tan undertones.

The Red Lip

Yes, the red lip is back in vogue. And you can wear this awesome look too. It?s red and it?s matte and it?s gorgeous. You can go two ways with this look.

1. Red matte lips and nothing else.

2. Red matte lips and exotic eyes.

For lipstick try a blue-red. It?ll make your teeth look whiter compared to an orange or brown red. Berry colors are usually a winning color.

For the eyes, you?ll have a smudgey look using either jewel tones or matte. Remember not to mix them! One or the other. Apply vibrant gold, copper, chestnut or bronze over the entire eyelid and smudge it below the eye. Don?t use black, gray or charcoal for this look. Use a rich dark brown eyeliner (no black!) and draw a thin line on the top and bottom lashes and if you like, line inside the eye. Then smudge the eyeliner so it?s still a visible line, but smudgey.

No blush for this look.

And there you go! You?ve got three of this season?s hottest styles to help you look your very best for all those holiday parties. Look and feel your best this season by not forgetting to take time for yourself this month. A little pampering can help ease the holiday stress.

The Benefits Of Jala Neti

First discovered Jala Neti after reading a book; The breath of life' which was a great book all around. It described a way to clean out the nasal passage which I thought looked extremely weird. Basically it involves getting a little teapot -like jug, putting warm salt water in it and then put the spout up one nostril tilt your head and let the water flow out the other nostril. Sound weird, well it is until you actually do it and discover the benefits of it.

What is Jala Neti?

Jala neti is an ancient Indian yoga technique, meaning literally ;water cleansing;. Jala neti, though relatively unknown to western culture, is a common practice in parts of India and other areas in south east asia, performed as routinely as using a toothbrush. It is performed daily usually the first thing in the morning with other cleansing practices. Sometimes it is done more often such as at the end of the day if you work or live in a dusty or polluted environment. When dealing with problems of congestion it can be performed up to 4 times a day and has been shown to speed up the healing process for common colds.

The Jala Neti pot:

Is filled with warm water, as I mentioned before. The spout is inserted into one nostril, the head is tilted, as shown and the warm salty water flows through one side of the nasal cavity to the other and out the other nostril.

How it works

For those who may not have much idea of the internal workings of the nasal cavities, it may seem like a stupid or even dangerous thing to pour warm salty water through ones nose. But when examined with an open mind and a simple picture of the physiological structures involved, fears and misunderstandings can be cleared up. The first line of nasal defence are the tiny hairs called cilia; which should trap larger particles entering the nose. These cilia are usually cleansed by the act of normal breathing and by blowing the nose, but sometimes, due to a gradual build up of dirt, they can become clogged and may require washing out.! The who le of the nasal passages from nose tip to throat (and beyond) are covered with a layer of mucus. This mucus is secreted from within the mucous lining, and its function is to trap smaller foreign particles and bacteria. The dirty mucus is normally blown out, snorted and coughed out or swallowed. The sinus passages are an even finer mechanism of filtering which, if infected, secrete a runny mucus to evict the germs. This is generally called sinusitis and can be a short term symptom or a chronic condition.

In Stage 1, the water simply flows up one nostril to just above the bridge of the nose where the usual air flows meet, backwards into the middle cavity and then the water flows down and out the other side of the nose. In this route, it passes by the frontal and mid nasal sinuses. In Stage 1 there should be no flow of water back towards the throat or into the mouth. When done correctly, there is usually very little sensation as the water will be the same temperature as the blood, and the salinity will be the same salinity as the blood. As a result, the nose hardly notices the flow through.

In the more advanced of Stages 2 and 3, only attempted after mastery of Stage 1, the water flows fully through the whole nasal cavity, down the back of the nasopharynx and comes out through the mouth. In this route, it passes by the post nasal sinuses, cleansing all the nasal passages more strongly. In neither version is there any discomfort or damage to the nasal functions. Ideally, at no stage, should any water actually go up into the sinus passages or the eustachian tubes. However, this may happen if the practitioner breathes incorrectly or blows too strongly when drying. In such an event, a few minutes of air drying will usually clear out any stray water droplets. This only causes momentary discomfort and is not dangerous unless an infection is spread where none was before. However, the rules and procedures of the yogic method of Jala Neti make this very unlikely. The way in which Jala Neti rinses out the! dirt an d bacteria filled mucous lining would be obvious to most people as the warm water loosens and dissolves any internal build ups, and takes them outwards. But what may not be so obvious is that, due to gravity and a venturi effect, the sinus passages are also drained by the vacuum pressure flow of the water. Whereas it would normally be impossible to drain a dead end passage like the sinuses, Jala Neti achieves this ingeniously and simply.

For those with thick mucus conditions as well as those with running sinuses, the relief of sinus pressure can be felt within seconds. As well, the eustachian tubes (which are also dead end passages) receive exactly the same effects as the sinuses, that being - a drawing outwards of dirt and mucus. Hence Jala Neti is of great benefit for blockages and infections of the middle ear, by draining the tubes to relieve the pressure build up as well as removing germs. In a more detailed examination, it would also be seen that through the effect of osmosis and capillary action, the blood vessels of the nose are stimulated to cleanse as well.

The eyes are also beneficially affected by Neti. The tear ducts, which connect from the eyes into the nasal passages, get the same drawing out effect as the sinuses, and this results in a brighter, clearer sense of vision.

Other benefits of Jala Neti

  • Neti removes all the dirt and bacteria filled mucus from within the nose.
  • It also helps to drain the sinus cavities. This in turn, will help to reprogramme the body's natural mechanisms against nasal infections such as hayfever, allergies, sinusitis and other upper respiratory complaints like sore throats and coughs, post nasal drip, inflammation of tonsils and adenoids.
  • It is beneficial for illnesses such as asthma and bronchitis as it reduces the tendency for mouth breathing by freeing the nostrils of mucus.
  • It has a cooling and soothing effect on the brain by drawing out excessive heat, and is therefore beneficial for headaches, mi! graine, epilepsy, temper tantrums, hysteria, depression and general mental tension.
  • Neti is of great benefit for problems associated with the eyes. It helps flush the tear ducts, encouraging clearer vision and gives a sparkle to the eyes.
  • It can be beneficial for certain types of ear disorders such as middle ear infections, glue ear, tinnitus.
  • Neti improves sensitivity of the olfactory nerves, helping to restore lost sense of smell, and thereby benefits the relationship with taste and the digestive processes.
  • It has subtle effects on the pineal and pituitary glands which control the hormonal system. This has a harmonising effect on emotional behaviour.
  • Neti affects the psychic centre known as Ajna Chakra which helps in awakening higher states of meditation.
  • It helps to stimulate better powers of visualisation and concentration and gives a feeling of lightness and clarity to the mind.
  • Neti is excellent for those trying to give up smoking. Since it reduces the tendency for mouth breathing, Neti re-sensitises the nose to the actual pollution of ingesting smoke, thereby de-programming the brain of the physical and psychological addiction.
I have been using the jala Neti technique for almost three years and have found it extremely beneficial when I have blocked sinuses and on the odd occasion I get a headache. At first I used it every day for about 6 months, however now I tend to only use it when needed, which is probably not the correct way to do it.

If you decide to try this I would suggest buying a good plastic neti pot as the metal ones tend to discolour which made me stop using it until I bought another one and by the time I got around to buying another one I got out of the habit of using it.

Healthy Living Through Ayurveda

In Ayurveda, there are four crucial components to healthy and balanced living: eating well, getting enough sleep, exercising regularly and daily meditation.

For Ayurvedic healers, it is not just what you eat, but it's also how your body reacts to what you eat that is important. However, many people have become overweight because they have become imbalanced when it comes to their approach to food. Eating the right kind and the appropriate quantity of food is so important in Ayurvedic healing. One proverb states that food is divine. How divine? Food even enjoys a higher status in Ayurveda than all other herbs and medicines!

As long as we continue to eat inappropriate and unhealthy foods or continue to have unpredictable eating routines and habits, our bodies will suffer serious consequences. We damage our energy level, mental well-being and emotional state by eating junk and chemical-laden food. These all seriously damage our general health and well-being and even cause irreversible damage to our organs, thereby shortening our life-span tremendously.

Ayurvedic practitioners, unlike many Western diet gurus, do not have a one-size-fits-all approach to eating and nutrition. We all have unique dietary needs and we all have to create a diet that fits us over time. However, Ayurveda suggests some general guidelines for healthy food choices and you can use the guidelines that work best for you. Remember to listen to your body carefully because it will guide you to the foods that can enhance your physical, mental and emotional balance. It is highly recommended that you eat raw, fresh, natural whole foods.

It is also encouraged that you follow an eating routine and treat eating times as sacred. Try not to take short meals or eat while working. Prepare and cook food with care and look for a place where you can eat in a pleasant atmosphere. When you take the time to eat, you give food the chance to turn into ojas - the substance that Ayurveda calls the essence of life and the b! est prod uct of the eating and digesting process.

Another basic for good health and longevity is enough sleep. According to Ayurveda, sleep is important so our minds and bodies get to recharge. Lack of sleep hampers digestion, clouds the mental state and burdens many organs. Sleep deprivation is linked to high blood pressure and depression, among other things. Interestingly enough, Ayurveda does not think eight hours of sleep is for everyone. Because you are unique, you need to know your own sleep quota that is adequate and makes you function well. The quality of sleep is also important. Ayurveda says the best kind of sleep happens then when the mind is completely separate from all other senses. It is suggested that early sleep is more productive, try to go to bed early (before 10 pm). It is important to wake up early too, preferably before 6 am. Aromatherapy, a cup of herbal tea, deep breathing exercises and a bedtime massage can all help you enjoy a deeper slumber.

The third basic component of a healthy life is an adequate level of physical and mental activity. Along with diet and sleep, Ayurvedic healers say we need an exercise program that caters to our needs. For example, if you are trying to balance a Kapha dosha, go for more vigorous exercise like aerobics or tennis. If you are a Pitta, swimming is a good option. Walking and yoga are good for everyone because they are convenient and practical. They can also be done everyday alone or with a partner. It s recommended that you exercise early in the morning to sustain energy levels during the day and to sleep easier at night. Never exercise on an empty stomach or after a meal. Never continue the exercise if you feel pain or exhaustion. As with all other elements, moderation in exercise is crucial to physical and mental balance.

Finally, Ayurveda encourages daily meditation to recharge all the senses. Taking thirty minutes a day to meditate enhances the ability to manage stress. It also promotes mental focus and emotional ! equilibr ium. Meditation also helps you get good sleep and reduces hypertension. Many tapes and books are available to get you started on this key Ayurvedic practice.

Eating Binges ? A Fact of Human Life?

The eating binge is something that?s well known to most of us ? especially those of us who are struggling to lose weight. In extreme cases, binge eating is even a disorder ? people seem to lose control of their eating, concentrating on a single food group and consuming literally thousands of calories in a very short period of time. Afterward, the result is a feeling of guilt, or that you have ?blown it? ? and, of course, the intake of that many calories at a time is disastrous to weight loss.

However, many experts have commented that dieting or restricting food intake can actually trigger binging for those who have that tendency already. It?s almost as though the restriction of food makes us feel so deprived that we respond by binging, and the guild that follows a binge can derail the diet for an even longer time that necessary. Many of us would give anything to be able to control the impulse to binge ? eliminating it altogether would be ideal, in fact. In this way, we would really be able to control food intake and lose weight.

Most people look upon binging as a ?problem? behavior ? an expression of some sort of distress, or even a type of neurotic behavior to be cured. After all, this type of eating is extreme ? during a binge, people consume many times their ideal calorie intake for the day, and there seems no way to avoid weight gain if this becomes a habit. However, there is also evidence that indicates binging may just be a fact of life for all humans, a leftover from the way in which we obtained our food early on in human development. Think about it. Before agriculture came on the scene and regulated the food supply throughout the year, humans spent many millennia as hunters and gatherers. In fact, we should all remember that this pre-civilized, hunting and gathering existence went on for much longer than civilization had. Humans have practiced agriculture for little more than six thousand years, but humans (or advanced pre-humans) have been around for about 35 thousand years. So fo! r the va st majority of human history, we were hunters and gatherers, and in that state, believe it or not, binging was a really good idea.

Think about it. This was before refrigeration or any other organized means of food preservation. People moved around constantly, and sometimes food was plentiful, while other times it was scarce. When food was scarce, there was no way to get more. Humans just had to do without, or survive on very little. That meant that when a hunt was successful, or when the early humans stumbled upon a grove or fruit trees, binging was the most reasonable, well-adapted response. The food was there at that moment, and who knew when it would be there again? So the early humans would have eaten as much of it as was humanly possible ? in short, they binged. They had to. It had to keep them going until the next lucky find.

Our bodily drives are stronger and more primitive than what our minds tell us. So, while we might know, intellectually, that binging is not a good idea and that we should eat a pre-approved number of calories per day, the urge to binge is still as strong in us as it was in early humans. The difference, of course, is that our food environment is not self-limiting ? there are no natural restrictions. We have access to almost all types of food at all times, unlike early humans. So, though our environment doesn?t necessitate binging, the behavioral drive is still strong.

That also explains why dieting can bring on a binge. A diet is like a period of scarcity or famine ? biologically, this makes us want to binge, to make up for it, as soon as food becomes available. And the more you restrict your eating, the stronger your impulse to binge will be, because for early humans (physiologically identical to us) that was good survival behavior. That?s why the behavior is so hard to overcome ? at one point, it was not just acceptable ? it was necessary to human survival.

What is Acne?

Acne is a skin condition that affects millions of individuals everyday. Acne does have a clinical term, which is Acne Vulgaris, but is usually referred to only as ?acne?. There are a few variations acne, but the basic acne definition which applies to all forms is fairly simple. Acne is characterized by inflammation on the skin?s surface in the form of cysts, pustules, nodules, papules, pimples, blackheads, and/or white heads. Acne is caused by excess oil in the skin, the fluctuation of hormones, along with inflammation and bacteria. The epidemic of acne transcends cultural, age, and gender boundaries. Therefore, understanding exactly what acne is and how it forms is essential for everyone.

Many use the term ?pimple? synonymously with the term ?acne?. This is not completely correct; a pimple is a small swelling in the skin that is actually caused by acne. Pimples usually appear as small red or small flesh-colored bumps. Acne is a much more serious condition. If not treated properly it can cause swelling. Below is the explanation of how different forms of acne develop.

When oil from the sebaceous (or oil generating) glands become blocked, bacteria will begin to grow under the skin. This causes the follicle or pore to become blocked as well and this is when acne forms on the skin?s surface. A whitehead will form when the trapped oil and bacteria remain below the skin?s surface. On the other hand, when the trapped oil and bacteria become partially exposed on the skin?s surface, the melanin, or pigment, turns the bump black.

Acne can vary in severity. Some people suffer from pimples more so than acne. Pimples are less likely to cause scarring than acne and, thus, acne poses more of a problem for people. Acne in the form of blackheads can be more serious than acne in the form of white heads. The oil and bacteria that causes the blackhead takes longer to surface; as a result the acne can persist for a long period of time. When a whitehead develops, the cause of the acne (oil and bacteria), ! are more accessible?this is why it is so easy to pop a whitehead and so difficult to pop a blackhead. Although this is true, it is not recommended for anyone to pop either form of acne.

Alcohol Not Only Makes You Gain Body Fat It Destroys Your Muscles

Give That Man A Beer!

Aaaaaahhhh! A night out with the boys?... Make merriment, throw in a bottle or two, have that tequila pop with the accompaniment of great music. Sounds fun isn?t it? Especially when Christmas and New Year is just round the corner. But do you know what that beer or tequila is doing to you?

Alcohol, hic, is one of the world's oldest drug. Yes, it is a drug. It has many effects on the body, some good, but mostly bad.

It supposedly helps you to relax and make you light headed which to many is source of enjoyment. It may even have some beneficial effects, such as a blood thinning action. That is why some tout it as good to have a glass of wine now and then.

Alcohol is nervous system depressant, causing the brain to relax and inhibitions to decrease. That is why many alcoholics get into trouble because they could not control their behaviour when intoxicated.

Muscle co-ordination is impaired. Thoughts are incoherent and so gibberish is spewed and slurred. Over intoxication can even cause coma and death. Yes, every year tens of thousands of people die from alcohol poisoning. Alcohol is especially harmful to bodybuilders since it prevents muscle recovery and protein synthesis. It dehydrates you and again that is bad for your muscles and not to say your nutrient intake is impaired.

However, not to take the fun out of those that imbibe in alcohol, a drink occasionally and not taken excessively is a nice way to relax and socialize. I know. I do indulge in alcohol now and then. But if you are a teetotaler, perhaps it is better for you to stay that way.

Alcohol is water soluble and is metabolized primarily by the liver. That means that your liver is taking the brunt of the poison and that is why so many alcoholics suffer from liver diseases. My dad passed on with just one of those diseases. Liver cancer.

You get fuzzy woozy and talk in circles incoherently and your memory lapses so much that you may not even remember what you said or did in the ! drunken stupor. In the meantime, brain cells are destroyed! You become stupid. Really. Duh?

Even a small amount of alcohol will have an instant effect on your ability to control your emotions and judgment. Since you are unable to command these faculties, a larger amount of alcohol will make you lose control of your good sense and violent and emotional outbursts may follow. Think of the drunken brawl or being a little more adventurous with the other sex that will put you behind bars or in a hospital emergency ward. Since it is also a depressant, sometimes it can get you so depressed that your emotion is so much affected until you may collapse crying or emotionally inconsolable which again may lead to some actions of which you may regret. Don't live with embarrassments all your life.

Over time, if sufficient amount of alcohol is consumed, some brain receptors become accustomed to a certain amount of alcohol and more is required to get the same depressing and intoxicating effect. That means you build up tolerance and need to drink more to get the same high which means more poison you will be drinking and more money gone down the urinal as expensive urine. At this stage, you may have become an alcoholic and may experience imaginery anxiety, tremors and hallucinations when you are not drinking. You may then get over intoxicated and death may be a consequence of the over indulgence.

Ok...I shall not scare you drinkers out there anymore because I am now going terrify you!

Alcohol is particularly detrimental for people who love sports. Performance, recovery and rebuilding of your muscle cells are all affected. What's worse, its effects can linger on for days. With its effect still affecting you, you will :-

a) Lose strength and so you can't build muscles effectively.

b) Gain body fat easily (your body burn alcohol for energy first and do not burn anything else such as fat and carbs which will then be converted to fat as they are not used up for energy).

c)Your male hormones test! osterone s is suppressed ( so your muscles and male features suffers. You may also suffer from erectile dysfunction).

d) Impaired reaction time - This is when accidents happen. So don't drink and drive. You may kill somebody or even yourself.

e)Increased estrogen production, a female hormone ( you develop breasts instead of pecs or what bodybuilders called bitch tits)

d)Increased fatigue - how do you like to be in a constant state of hangover?

e) Caused dehydration - a cause for wrinkles, dry skin, thick yellowish smelly urine.

f) Your aerobic capacity decreased

g) Your muscle growth is retarded

e) Disrupted sleep (disruption of sleep will inhibit the release of growth hormones much needed for your muscles to grow)

f) Vitamin and mineral will not be absorbed effectively meaning you will be short of essential nutrients and your immunity system will crumbled. You will the succumb easily to diseases and age more rapidly.

There are many many more harm alcohol can do to you. you. I shall stop here now as it is not nice to terrify you lest I be branded as a terrorist!!

Bottoms up, anyone?

Mangosteen Pills

Mangosteen pills are manufactured from the mangosteen?s fruit pulp and pericarp (skin). Their medicinal value lies in the fact that these pills have a concentration of certain powerful antioxidants called xanthones.

Antioxidants are chemicals that prevent the oxidization of other chemicals. This, in turn, prevents the production of free radicals, which damage tissue and cause infections. Some other useful antioxidants are beta carotene (vitamin A), ascorbic acid (vitamin C), vitamin E and selenium.

Just as the inclusion of antioxidants prevents certain foodstuffs from deteriorating, xanthones theoretically prevent body tissue from suffering wear and tear to a certain extent. The polysaccharides (or complex carbohydrates) inherent in the mangosteen fruit and pericarp are also considered useful constituents of mangosteen pills.

In general, pills containing mangosteen are said to support overall biological integrity and balance, help in joint flexibility, boost the immune system and nourish the brain. They are therefore considered extremely valuable dietary supplements. Further, many claim that mangosteen pills have antidepressant properties and can even effect reversal in diseases from microbial infection to leukemia and cancer.

Mangosteen pills are also said to be highly effective in slowing down certain atherosclerotic processes. Additionally, they are used to reduce fever, pain, vertigo and energy depletion. Many adherents believe them to be beneficial in certain types of diabetes since they can bring down blood sugar levels and therefore replace some of the functions of a failing pancreas.

All this is largely hypothetical, and many users of mangosteen pills have reported adverse reactions such as itchiness to the point of insomnia. Whatever the case may be, mangosteen pills are medicines: botanical medicines, but still medicines. Since their ingredients may have sparked off unwanted reactions under certain conditions, they should not be taken outside medical supervision! .

Mangosteen provides detailed information about mangosteen, mangosteen fruit and more. Mangosteen is affiliated with Bottled Water Companies.
