Chronic Fatigue vs. Chronic Fatigue Syndrome

Fatigue is an ongoing part of life for many individuals today. Lack of sleep for busy parents, students, and others trying to find ways to fit all of their ?to do?s? into one twenty four hour period is simply something that modern man learns to deal with. However, for some people, fatigue cannot be remedied by a good night?s sleep.

Chronic fatigue can be an early warning sign that something has gone awry with one or more bodily systems. Diseases and disorders such as depression, diabetes, hypothyroidism, and even certain cancers count fatigue as a primary symptom. For individuals who suffer from one of these diseases, fatigue is a result of the disease or disorder ? fatigue is caused by the disease. For an even smaller group of individuals, chronic fatigue is an illness unto itself.

Unlike Chronic Fatigue, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS) IS the illness, not merely a symptom. Although characterized by, and having extreme fatigue as its hallmark symptom, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome includes many other frustrating symptoms. Chronic Fatigue Syndrome sufferers find that they can include multiple mysterious symptoms such as flu-like symptoms and unexplained brain fog among their woes. For some individuals, the symptoms become incredibly disabling. Many individuals cannot function normally ? at least for a period of time.

Because the symptoms of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome are non-specific, medical professionals have difficulty diagnosing the illness. Even more frustrating for sufferers, many medical professionals continue to hold the belief that Chronic Fatigue Syndrome is not a valid illness, but is a psychosomatic disorder instead. Even with this built in prejudice, it is still wise for an individual who believes he or she suffers from CFS to undergo a complete medical examination to rule out one of the underlying medical conditions mentioned above before receiving treatment for CFS.

Individuals who suffer from Chronic Fatigue Syndrome are not merely depressed, overtired, or cr! azy. Ch ronic Fatigue Syndrome is a valid medical illness. Research into the causes, and ultimately cure, of CFS is still in its infancy, but medical professionals have determined that CFS does in fact exist and that sufferers may be able to find relief ? if not yet a cure. With continued research and medical intervention, CFS sufferers may one day realize a life without symptoms.

TickBite Symptoms

Ticks are parasites that feed on the blood of mammals, birds, and reptiles. Tick bites occur when a tick attaches itself to a host and feeds on it. Not all tick bites cause diseases. In fact, a majority of tick bites are harmless. However, if a tick is found attached to the skin, it must be removed immediately.

Tick bite symptoms include rash, muscle pain, headache, and swelling. These symptoms can emerge anytime between one day and several weeks following the tick bite, depending upon the infection passed on by the tick.

Lyme disease is one of the most common tick-borne diseases in the United States, and its symptoms emerge within two to thirty days after a tick bite. Warning signs of the disease include a circular red rash on the bite area, headache, slight fever, muscle or joint pain, and weakness. Rocky Mountain spotted fever is another tick-borne disease. Its symptoms include rash and fever that emerge within three to twelve days after a tick bite. Relapsing fever, as the name suggests, involves intermittent spells of fever. The symptoms of this disease emerge within three to ten days after a tick bite. This disease is characterized by high fever, headache, and joint pain. This lasts for two to three days, followed by days with no fever or related problems. After a few days, however, the fever and other flu-like symptoms reappear. Symptoms of the Colorado Tick Fever appear within three to fourteen days and include flu and rash. Tick paralysis is a severe, although rare, disease caused by tick bite. It generally occurs within a week of the bite due to weakening of muscles.

In animals, tick bites lead to various diseases that are characterized by weakness, swelling, vomiting, fever, and even paralysis.

Tick bites may cause serious diseases in humans and animals. Therefore, people in tick-prone areas must take adequate precautions to protect themselves and their pets from tick bites.

Delineating Death: Vital Issues Concerning Life

Death refers to cessation of life. It is irreversible. Death means the total loss of a living entity?s essential characteristics.

LEVELS OF DEATH

There can be several levels of death. First, there is somantic death. It is closely followed by three types of changes. They are classified by the level of transformations that our mortal remains undergo. The three stages through which the physical mass pass through are algor mortis, livor mortis and rigor mortis.

WHAT HAPPENS PRIOR TO SOMANTIC DEATH?

Prior to somantic death, functioning of the crucial internal organs stops. For instance, the heart stops breathing. The respiration process including respiration fails. The brain also halts the functioning activity. Moreover, all forms of movements and reflexes too stop functioning.

SOMANTIC DEATH

When the entire organism stops functioning, it is called somantic death. This stage generally precedes the cessation of normal activities of cell parts, cells as a whole, as well as the individual organs. It is not always easy to determine the exact moment of somantic death. This is due to certain transient states like coma, faint, and also trance, all of which have close similarities insofar as the death symptoms are concerned. Mentionably, blood clotting and cells? death (called autolysis) happen in the close heels of death.

WHEN DO BODY ORGANS DIE?

The body organs die at different paces. The brain cells expire within five minutes of the somantic death. The heart keeps functioning for approximately 15 minutes while the kidney stops functioning after about half an hour of somantic death. Hence, various important organs of a dead body can be removed within 30 minutes from a dead body to be transplanted to another living person.

ALGOR MORTIS, RIGOR MORTIS & LIVOR MORTIS

Algor mortis, Rigor mortis and Livor mortis are the different transition stages that our bodies undergo after death occurs.
Algor mortis: Algor mortis refers to the first transition stage ! of the b ody after somantic death. Algor mortis primarily refers to the body cooling. Algor mortis is also affected by the immediate environment and its temperature.
Rigor mortis: The second transition stage of the body takes place from five to 10 hours after death. Rigor mortis disappears after three to four days or 96 hours. Rigor mortis pertains to the stiffening of the skeletal muscles.
Livor mortis: This is the last transition stage of the body after death. During this stage, the body?s underside takes on a reddish-blue color. This discoloration occurs as the blood settles. As a result of these changes, the body starts decomposition. This putrefaction is caused by the actions of the bacteria and the enzymes.

Are Alternative Complimentary Natural and Holistic Medicine All the Same?

There is such a vast amount of information out there in the public domain that it is sometimes very hard for us to make sense of it all or even to make a choice about our health treatments. I am a layperson that got interested in ?other? treatments when I left my general practitioner?s office unconvinced by his theories about my ailing health. I did not want to be tired any more, but suspected that I first had to get to the bottom of the despondency that I seemed to drown in.

The first confusing thing I ran into was what were alternative, complementary, natural and holistic medicine ? were they all the same thing? I wanted to learn more about the cause of the ailments and not on how to suppress the symptoms. And so I became a strong supporter of the holistic health approach. The adjective holistic (often spelled wholistic) spans all four health domains vs. any one of them, spiritual, emotional, physical and mental. Holistic medicine works in harmony with the body?s rhythms and energies, bringing it back as close as possible to its original state. It speaks of ?treating the whole person? and harmonizing the person with nature and refers to the various traditional and modern systems of health protection and restoration, which are based on the body's natural healing powers, the many ways the different tissues affect each other and the influence of the external environment. A toxic environment, whether it is family, belief, or relationship, is one which impinges on someone's holistic health. Holistic health looks at life from the perspective that humans function as complete, integrated units rather than as the sum of separate parts.

Alternative medicine is often the term used to describe therapies such as Homeopathy, Acupuncture and Naturopathy and provides a genuine alternative to your family doctor?s surgery. The greatest benefit is achieved when holistic practitioners practice alongside conventional doctors but sadly, in most countries this is still more the exception than the rule!

Some t herapies like metamorphic technique, chelation therapy or Hopi ear candles are effective within a limited range of conditions and are quite restricted and so are by definition complementary.

Most people think natural medicine must imply that there is something inherently good about being natural - but not all things natural are beneficial. Arsenic is natural but certainly not beneficial! The biggest challenge is that most of these therapies are certainly not natural, like Homeopathy or Flower Essence. Most therapies involve a concept of natural, vital energy, which provides the driving force for life itself. Asthma inhalers, antibiotics and steroids never actually cure chronic conditions and often leave people dependent on drugs for partial relief. The holistic approach alleviates symptoms while working towards a real cure that removes the need for treatment of any kind. Generally, the more authentically our spiritual, emotional, physical and mental needs are met both locally and chronically, the higher the state of our holistic health.

Becoming a Diabetes Expert

I am a diabetes expert. No I?m not a doctor or a nurse. I am a mom. A mom to a 13 year old girl named Ashley who has Juvenile Diabetes. Ashley was diagnosed with Juvenile Diabetes just before her fifth birthday. She went into a diabetic coma and almost died. None of that would have happened if I had known the warning signs. In this article I am going to give you some information on diabetes and the warning signs.

There are two types of Diabetes. Type I - Juvenile Diabetes and Type II - Adult Onset Diabetes. Here we are going to concentrate on Type I.

With Type I , which mainly occurs in young people, the pancreas produces very little or no insulin. This disease is now being classed as an Auto-immune disease. This is what can happen. A person becomes ill with a flu-like virus. Normally the white blood cells would attack these invading organisms and the person would begin to get better. But, in a person prone to diabetes the white blood cells become confused and attack the beta cells in the pancreas. To better understand this let me explain what the pancreas does. The pancreas is a gland positioned behind the stomach. It has two major functions. The first is to produce enzymes that help to digest food. The second is to produce the hormones insulin and glucagon. These two hormones are important because they play a major part in regulating the glucose (sugar) level in your blood by keeping it at an even or normal level. When your pancreas becomes damaged it is unable to manufacture insulin. Insulin helps your beta cells absorb sugar. Your body needs the sugar to produce energy. Your body, unable to use glucose because of the lack of insulin, is forced to obtain energy from fat instead. This is very dangerous and if not treated eventually leads to a coma.

If you are aware of them the warning signs are very easy to see. The warning signs of Juvenile Diabetes are: irritability, frequent urination which is associated with abnormal thirst, nausea or vomiting, fatigue, weight loss despite a no! rmal (or even increased) intake of food, and unusual hunger. Something usually not mentioned but, which happened with my daughter was nightmares & sleep walking. In children, frequent bedwetting - especially by a child who never previously wet the bed - is another common sign. Just before going into a coma you will notice breath that smells like acetone (ex:fingernail polish remover). This is a sign of ketoacidosis. You should get this person to the hospital immediately.

People with Type I Diabetes are subject to episodes in which blood glucose levels are very high (hyperglycemia) and very low (hypoglycemia). Either of these conditions can lead to a serious medical emergency. To better understand this you should know that a normal blood glucose level is between 70 - 120. When my daughter went into a diabetic coma her level was over 1,000. She has been as low as 19. This is very scary. This is what I notice when Ashley becomes low. You look into her eyes and she looks far away. Her eyes are glassy and vacant looking. She becomes confused, disoriented and sometimes combative. Her speech is slow and often slurred. Her hand will tremble and she says she feels shaky. Sometimes Ashley does not recall these episodes.

Episodes of hypoglycemia (low blood glucose) which strikes suddenly, can be caused by a missed meal, too much excersize, or a reaction to too much insulin. The initial signs are hunger, dizziness, sweating, confusion, palpitations, and numbness or tingling of the lips. If not treated the individual may go on to experience double vision, trembling and disorientation; they may act strangely and may even lapse into a coma.

In contrast, a hyperglycemic (high blood glucose) episode can come on over a period of several hours or even weeks. The risk of hyperglycemia is greatest during illness. When insulin requirements rise; blood sugar can creep, ultimately resulting in a coma, a reaction also known as diabetic ketoacidosis. One of the warning signs of developing hyperglycemia is the inability ! to keep down fluids. Possible long term complications include stroke, blindness, heart disease, kidney failure, gangrene, and nerve damage.

So you see I am a diabetes expert. It was important for me to know my enemy. My enemy is diabetes and with education I can fight it.

Devoting her last 8 years to Diabetes Education, Kimberly maintains her website ElviraDarkNight.com and publishes the Living Life as a Diabetic Newsletter and also dispatches donated Diabetic supplies to needie individuals without Health Insurance. Nutrition And Healthy Eating What You Should Know

Many people think that they can achieve a healthy lifestyle simply by maintaining a diet that prevents obesity. While keeping trim is one aspect of being nutritionally sound, there are many other factors that figure into getting your body working in the best possible shape.

Your body needs plenty of nutrients to stay in its best condition, and a diet simply isn?t enough. A combination of receiving nutrition and healthy eating can result in great things for your health. For instance, your body requires a daily amount of calcium. If you cannot achieve these daily guidelines, the calcium levels in your blood will drop. This will disrupt nerve communication and hinder blood clotting. If you neglect your calcium levels long enough, the bloodstream will begin to sap the very calcium that makes up your bones. This results in brittle bones, the onset of the dreaded osteoporosis.

Also, it?s important to get your daily vitamins. Vitamins A, B-complex, C, D, E, and K are all necessary on a daily basis to maintain your health. They contain antioxidants that help your body fight off the negative effects of free radicals ? molecules that attack the cell membranes in your body. A lack of these vitamins can result in a range of symptoms, from things as simple as chapped lips to long-forgotten diseases such as scurvy, caused by a lack of vitamin C.

Of course, nutrition and healthy eating go hand in hand; while vitamins and minerals are required, it is also important to get the right amounts of protein, carbohydrates, and fat. Without enough protein, your body is unable to repair damaged tissues, or create new tissues. Carbohydrates are key in providing your body with the energy it needs for your day-to-day tasks. Fat is also important, as too low a fat level can be detrimental to the body.

Now that you have an idea of some of the nutrients daily, you need get off your butt and start exercising. Exercise will do wonders for your whole body, mind, and even spiritual state if pursued long enough.

Opticians Care for More Than Your Eyes

A visit to your optician is more than just an opportunity to change your glasses because an eye test is so much more than that. When an optometrist examines your eyes they are able to detect indications of different conditions that may threaten your sight and in extreme case even your life. More importantly an eye test can uncover possible conditions you have had no symptoms of at all and thereby catch them at an early stage.

Life threatening

A recent case in North Yorkshire, England illustrates the point perfectly, a patient was rushed to hospital shortly after an eye test. The hospital optometrist confirmed the findings of the first eye test, the patient had a tumor in her right eye. and life saving surgery followed in a matter of days.

The patient visited the optician after experiencing blurred vision and when the eye test revealed a raised area on the retina she was quickly referred to hospital. Unfortunately the eye could not be saved because the tumor was too advanced but if the original optometrist hadn't seen the tumor during the eye test this patient could have lost their life.

Regular eye tests

This shows it's really important to have regular eye tests and I would urge everyone to visit an optician for an annual eye test or sooner if suffering disturbed vision.

Instances like this are rare but they do occur which is why opticians recommend a complete eye test and examination every two years. More frequent checks are recommended from around the age of 45 when many people begin to need glasses for reading and close work.

Regular eye tests are an essential part of routine health care and the above case shows how important eye tests are to peoples health.

Eye test secrets revealed...

During a routine eye test opticians can spot the early signs of several potential health problems, and often before the client is aware of them and it is for this reason that eye tests are so important. In my own case I was diagnosed with Glaucoma when I was just! 28 and was one of the youngest people they had ever found with congenital glaucoma purely from an eye test.

Incidents like this happen everyday at opticians across the world so next time you book an eye test don't just think of it as time for new glasses but more like an overall health check and an opportunity to change your glasses too if you really want to...

AntiAging is A Necessity

The current generation of 'maturing clients' has been shown signs and given statistics to prove that we have already begun preparing for that promised season of lasting to 120. There must be a reason for this

The Post War 2 births produced a collection of individuals that benefited at the time from the family discipline, lifestyles and standards that were simply just part of everyday life. Families obviously faced special challenges but a harmony existed that overrode all levels of intrusion. There was no intention or even awareness of what was being produced for such enormous benefit at a much later stage.

The concept of seed sowing is very much in evidence here. The time taken for a family to get organized, grow up, get educated and find a suitable job and partner maybe nearly 25 years but for many of us our lifestyle is still improving with age. Within this time frame every decision, rule, disciplinary action and family meeting has contributed to an ongoing bountiful harvest.

The much discussed challenges experienced by families currently still living under the one roof suggest that the 'seed' from a change in this lifestyle will produce an unknown outcome. The current generation is assuming a similar outcome as themselves for the offspring and are obviously unaware of any incorrect behavior contributing to a late life mess.

As the beneficiaries of long, healthy lives we will have the responsibility to develop programs, instruction, advice, solutions, diets and even spiritual truths to a generation that was not fed the right seed because of the deceit surrounding the' new' meaning of 'love' over 25years. Our harvest will continue to ensure that we will have the qualities to provide the help but we must have the health and strength. For some of us we may be only halfway there.

Mesothelioma and Asbestos

Mesothelioma is a cancer of the mesothelial cells, which cover most internal organs. The two places in which mesothelioma can develop are the lungs and the abdomen, but it is most commonly found in the lungs.

Mesothelioma which affects the lungs is called pleural mesothelioma, and in 70-80% of cases is caused by asbestos fibres being breathed in and becoming stuck in the tissue which covers the lungs (pleura). It is not known for certain what causes mesothelioma in the other 20-30%, although research is continuing.

Who suffers from mesothelioma?
2,000 cases of mesothelioma are diagnosed each year in the UK and the number of people who die from it is expected to rise to a peak between 2011 and 2015. This is because the disease can take 15-40 years to develop, and blue and brown asbestos (thought to be the most likely types to cause mesothelioma) were banned only in the late 1908s.

85% of the people who suffer from mesothelioma are male, and this is thought to be because it is mostly men who worked in trades involving asbestos. Most of the women who develop mesothelioma are thought to have breathed in asbestos fibres whilst cleaning the clothing of husbands who worked with the material.

Tradesfolk who are particularly likely to have handled asbestos and are at high risk of developing the industrial illness mesothelioma include:

-Metal plate workers

-Plumbers

-Gas fitters

-Carpenters

-Electricians

-Builders

-Decorators

What are the symptoms of mesothelioma?
Symptoms of pleural mesothelioma include:

-pain in the lower back or side of chest

-shortness of breath

-persistent cough

-weight loss

-difficulty swallowing

These symptoms do not necessarily mean a person has mesothelioma as they could apply to a range of other illnesses, but it is much more likely if they have had contact with asbestos.

What is the prognosis for mesothelioma?
The majority of people who suffer from mesothe! lioma on ly see their doctor when it has reached an advanced stage, and at this point the likelihood is that survival will be less than a year.

This very much depends on a range of factors, however, which include blood count, general health, and the type of mesothelioma from which a person is suffering.

One study found that 3 years after diagnosis, 1 in 10 people had survived, and after 5 years, survival rate was 1 in 20. However, other studies found a much better survival rate, with one study finding that 1 in 3 mesothelioma patients survived for 5 or more years, although this study only looked at people with epithelioid type tumours.

There is currently no cure for mesothelioma, but a range of drugs and treatments such as chemotherapy can help to delay the symptoms of the disease.

What should someone do if they are diagnosed with mesothelioma?
If there is a history of contact with asbestos in the workplace, an industrial illness claim may well be an option to consider. If successful, it will provide financial support to help the mesothelioma patient and their family pay for treatment and care, as well as substantial compensation for the exposure to asbestos that caused the illness.

Although most compensation claims have to be started within 3 years of the injury occurring, the nature of asbestos-related disease means that the disease does not become obvious for many years, so industrial illness claims are still valid as long as they are begun within 3 years of diagnosis.

Contact Lenses or Lasik Surgery Which is the right choice for you?

Contact lenses can get expensive, not to mention the fact that you get tired of having to put them into and out of your eyes every single day. With the advent of laser surgery in the last decade, more and more people are discovering that they can have 20/20 vision (or better) without ever having to wear glasses again.

Laser surgery is expensive and it's not generally covered by insurance because it's considered an elective procedure. Some insurance companies will cover a very small portion, leaving a general cost somewhere between $3000 and $4000 dollars. So immediately, it's a cash investment of significant portion.

Many clinics do offer financial payment plans, but they are usually one or two year plans that allow you to spread out the payments. This option can still cost you about$180 to $400 per billing period, whether it is by the month or quarter.

If the cost isn't something to turns the option off to you immediately, it's good to weigh the facts. Everyone is a candidate for laser corrective surgery. There are stages to the evaluation, including the amount of correction obtainable by corrective eyewear, shape of the eye, health of the eye, and condition of the eye.

Following the evaluation process, the specialist can determine which type of laser surgery, if any, they would recommend.

The procedure is done as outpatient care. The eyes are anaesthetized and held open. You'll feel some pressure when the laser surgery begins, and you might even experience a few moments of blindness.

It is not uncommon for patients to experience blurriness for a day or two following, but most patients notice an immediate (if not profound) change in their vision when the surgery is over.

Laser surgery isn't a guarantee of correction. However, doctors, as well as your own optometrist can never promise 20/20 vision at the surgery's completion. You may still need some form of corrective lenses. Laser surgery is a popular and viable alternative when compared to the lifetime inv! estment in the cost of new corrective eyewear every two or three years.

Ultimately, the procedure is not a guaranteed. The decision to continue with contact lenses or try laser corrective surgery is up to you and your doctor. The surgery has proven successful for hundreds of patients, but contact lenses are less expensive in the immediate time frames and don't involve surgery or lasers. Check out your options. Consult your optometrist and decide which option might be the best for you.

The Antibiotic Dilemma

Antibiotics are powerful drugs. Although they can be used effectively to treat bacterial infections, research shows they?re often unnecessarily or improperly prescribed ? many times at the patient?s own insistence.

Here?s the antibiotic dilemma. Even when they?re used correctly to kill bacteria, numerous studies show antibiotics can still cause more harm that good.

Yes, they kill off bad bacteria in your system, but they also destroy the good bacteria needed for proper digestion and protection against certain diseases. The destruction of good intestinal bacteria after a treatment of antibiotics has been found to be the direct cause of serious health issues, including candida.

And, worst of all, the misuse and over-prescription of antibiotics for anything and everything imaginable, including the common cold, flu and all kinds of viruses (which they have no effect on), is responsible for the growing resistance to antibiotics by many bacterial strains which are causing serious, untreatable problems.

A recent study, published in The Journal of Antimicrobial Chemotherapy, showed that even a properly prescribed antibiotic can foster the growth of antibiotic-resistant bacteria for at least two to six months after treatment. Carrying these bugs around in your body increases your chance of getting another infection. It also means the carrier can pass the resistant bug off to their family, friends, co-workers or anyone else they may bump into in their travels.

What can you do to protect yourself and your family? You can be cautious about using antibiotics and you can strengthen your immune system.

Your immune system is your body?s means of defense against infectious diseases as well as colds, flues and other viruses. People with strong, healthy immune systems seldom, if ever, need to take antibiotics for infections.

When necessary, you can use a natural antibiotic. Garlic is a highly effective natural antibiotic that blocks toxin production of germs. According to the Ga! rlic Inf ormation Center in Britain, garlic was found to be a more potent antibiotic than penicillin and many prescription drugs. It was also more effective against nine strains of E. coli and Staph infections.

If you decide to take garlic capsules, be sure the garlic is not deodorized. Allicin is the source of garlic odor and it?s also the active ingredient that makes it so effective. 5 to 10 milligrams of garlic is the equivalent of 75 to 100 units of penicillin.

Contact Lens Types Do You Wear the Lenses that are Best for You?

Did you know that all contact lenses aren't the same? Take some time to find out about the different types of contact lens and what they can do for your eyes. Of course your doctor will help you to select the right lenses, but it is best to be prepared and know, in advance, what is best for you.

All lenses can be divided into groups depending on the material they're made from, their wearing schedule, the design of lenses, their purpose, and their degree of a transparency.

Contact lens materials

Contact lenses can be distinguished by the material they are made of. To start, they are divided into two major groups - rigid and soft.

Rigid lenses are, in turn, divided into rigid gas-tight and the more modern rigid gas-permeable.

All soft lenses are gas-permeable to a certain degree, and can be categorized further by the amount of water in the material. They can have a low moisture content (less than 50 percent) or a high moisture content (more than 50 percent).

Contact lenses wearing schedule

Contact lenses can also be divided by how often they should be replaced.

  • One group is replaced according to traditional guidelines. For soft lenses, this is about one year; but for rigid lenses it can be several years.
  • Another group is defined by scheduled replacement. This might be monthly or once every quarter.
  • There are also frequent replacement lenses, which could be changed daily, weekly, or fortnightly.
  • Finally, there are extended wear lenses, like Focus Night and Day lenses.
  • The more often you replace these lenses, the better it is for your eye health. Disposable contacts provide best vision and are best for your eyes.

    Design of contact lenses

The design of contact lenses can be divided into spherical, toric and multifocal.

  • Spherical lenses are for correction of shortsightedness and a long-sightedness.
  • Toric lenses are for astigmatism
  • Multifocal lenses a! re used to correct presbyopia
  • Different purposes of lenses

Contact lenses can be optical, cosmetic, decorative or therapeutic.

Optical contact lenses are intended for the correction of visual anomalies.

Cosmetic contact lenses are used to change the appearance of the eye. Color lenses like Freshlook or Acuvue 2 Colors are made to enhance or change your eye color.

Decorative lenses are color contacts intended to produce unusual effects - cat's eyes, zombie eyes, vampire eyes, and so on.

Therapeutic contact lenses are basically soft contact lenses that can be used like a bandage, to protect the cornea. They might also be used as a reservoir for medications used in the treatment of various diseases of the cornea.

    Clear and color contacts

Contact lenses can be divided into transparent and colored groups. Transparent contact lenses can be completely clear or have faint tint, which makes them easier to find in their storage container but won't affect the appearance of your eyes.

Colored lenses change the appearance of your eyes. Cosmetic and decorative contact lenses definitely fall within this category. See color contacts reviews with pictures and suggestions how to select best color contact lenses for you.

Can You Reduce Your Risk of Breast Cancer?

We hear it all the time?lose weight for your health. Few people however, realize the extent to which this is critical to their physical well-being and ultimately their life expectancy.

In January 2003, the Journal of the American Medical Association featured a study finding that obesity appears to lessen life expectancy, especially among young adults. The researchers compared Body-Mass Index (BMI) to longevity and found a correlation between premature death and higher BMIs. For example, a 20-year-old white male, 5?10? weighing 288 pounds with a BMI of greater than 40 was estimated to lose 13 years of his life as a result of obesity.Jamie McManus, M.D., F.A.A.F.P. and author of ?Your Personal Guide to Wellness? notes that while this study referenced extreme levels of obesity, there are still millions of overweight people in developed countries with a life expectancy rate that is three to five years less than their healthy-weight counterparts. She also estimates that there are 600,000 obesity related deaths each year in America.

Just how does obesity shorten our lifespan? The answer to this question is complex, yet there is a clear link between obesity and the development of cancer. An extensive study conducted by the American Cancer Institute involving 750,000 people showed that obesity significantly increased the risk of cancer developing in the following organs: breast, colon, ovaries, uterus, pancreas, kidneys and gallbladder.

Michael Thun, MD, vice-president of epidemiology and surveillance research for the American Cancer Society (ACS) says one reason obesity may raise cancer risk is because fat cells produce a form of estrogen called estradiol that promotes rapid division of cells, increasing chances of a random genetic error while cells are replicating, which can lead to cancer. In addition, fat centered around the abdomen may increase insulin and insulin-like growth factors in the blood, which may increase cancer risk.

Women who are obese after menopause have a 50% highe! r relati ve risk of breast cancer, notes Thun, and obese men have a 40% higher relative risk of colon cancer?. Gallbladder and endometrial cancer risks are five times higher for obese individuals?.There is evidence that cancer rates in developed countries are increasing at 5 to 15 times faster than developing countries. A major contributor to this alarming reality has proven to be diet. In populations where the diet consists mostly of fresh fruit and vegetables and whole grains ? in contrast to the typical Western diet of fatty meats, refined flours, oils and sugars ? the risk of cancer is much lower.

The interaction of diet and the development of cancer is an active field of research and Dr David Heber, M.D., Ph.D. and author of ?What Color is Your Diet?, says ?It appears that diet has its most significant effects after the cancer has already formed, acting to inhibit or stimulate the growth of that cancer?. At the risk of oversimplifying a complex set of interactions, the typical Western diet that leads to obesity may actually act to stimulate the growth of cancer cells. It is never too late to improve your health through healthful eating and adopting a more health-giving lifestyle. Here are simple steps to follow which can make an immediate improvement to your health and vitality.

    1. Check your Body Mass Index (BMI) to determine if weight has become health risk. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 60% of Americans are overweight, defined as having a BMI (a ratio of height to weight) over 25. Of those, nearly half (27%) qualify as obese, with a body mass index of 30 or more. In 1980, just 15% of Americans were considered obese. You can check your BMI at the website below.

    2. Match your diet to your body?s requirements. If you eat and drink more calories than your body requires you will put on weight. Learn to control calories and portion sizes, make recipes leaner, and eat infrequently from fast food restaurants. Also learn how to snack with healthful choices.

    3. ! Color yo ur diet with a large variety of colorful, cancer-fighting fruit and vegetables. There are seven different color ranges of both fruit and vegetables and by choosing between 5 to 9 daily serves from a wide range of fruit and vegetables, we are extending our consumption of cancer (and other disease) fighting nutrients.

    4. Eat lean protein with every meal. Protein provides a powerful signal to the brain providing a longer sense of fullness. The right source of protein is essential to controlling your hunger with fewer calories and necessary to maintain your lean muscle mass. Choices of protein should be flavored soy shakes with fruit; the white meat of chicken and turkey, seafood such as shrimps, prawns scallops and lobster and ocean fish or vegetarians may prefer soy based meat substitutes.

    5. Rev up your metabolism with activity. If you want to enjoy a lifetime of well-being, exercise is a key ingredient. Colleen Doyle, MS, RD, director of nutrition and physical activity for the American Cancer Society (ACS), says adults should do something for 30 minutes each day that takes as much effort as a brisk walk. Children should be active for an hour each day. We are more likely to develop habits around things we enjoy, so seek activities which you enjoy doing. It is also helpful to build physical activity into your daily routine: use the stairs instead of the escalator or lift at work, park your car in the parking bay furthest from the super marketing and don?t use the remote control to change TV channels.

    6. Get support to ensure you develop a healthful eating plan and reach your goal weight. Whilst a small percentage of people possess the discipline to lose weight, many obese people have developed strong thoughts and habits concerning the food they eat. In order to establish new habits, most people respond well to some form of consistent encouragement and coaching. A study, ?Effects of Internet Behavioral Counseling on Weight Loss in Adults at Risk of Type 2 Diabetes? shows that participants ! who had the support of weight loss coaching lost more weight than those who didn?t. The study concluded that the support of a weight loss coach can significantly improve weight loss results.

Being overweight or obese has been identified next to smoking, as the most preventable major risk to developing cancer. Even small weight losses have been shown to have beneficial health effects. So it?s never to late to start and you can never be too young or too old to be concerned about your health and do something about achieving a more healthy weight.

Ayurveda Ayurvedic Medicines and Important Herbs

What is Ayurveda and Its Importance?

Ayurveda is a traditional holistic healing. Translated from Sanskrit, Ayurveda means 'the science of life'. ayur means life and veda means science. India system which largely depends on plant support to form major Chunk of its medicine. Most of the herbs, spices, seeds, roots, leaves, stems, petals and flowers are deeply ingrained in all Indian homes where 'home remedies' are popular. Even certain family members in some family are adept in curing even intricate disorders by simple and cost effective formulations which, at times, have shown marvelous and astounding results.

All over the world today we are looking for a natural system of healing that is comprehensive and complete, that is not merely some curious form of folk healing but a real and rational system of medicine that is sensitive to both nature and the Earth. This is exactly what Ayurveda has to offer, for it has a many thousand year-old clinical tradition and a comprehensive natural method of treatment ranging from diet, herbs and massage.

With Ayurveda we learn the right diet for our individual type, how to improve our immune system, he keys to right use of sexual energy and rejuvenation,a nd a conscious way of life that can lift us to a new level of awareness in all our endeavors.

Without such natural wisdom as Ayurveda, we may find ourselves not only unhealthy, but unhappy and spiritually confused.

    Ayurveda Principles and Theory

Ayurveda system is the prominent user of herbs and its basic theory revolves round imbalance and vitiation of three humors (Doshas).

Ether (Akash), Air (Vayu), Fire (Agni), Water (Jal) and Earth (Prithvi) are the great five elements which underline all living systems. these elements are constantly changing and interacting and can be simplified into three Vitiations (Doshas). When these doshas remain under harmony and balance, health of body does not get disturbed but, when their balance gets disturbed, a diseased state sets in.

! The thre e doshas are vata (Wind), Pitta (Bile) and Kapha (Phlegm) and due to predominance of the one dosha, a person's personality is determined that is ' Vata-Prakriti', 'Pitta- Prakriti' or 'Kapha Prakriti'

Vata formed from ether and air, governs all movement in the mind and body and must be kept in good balance.

Pitta formed from fire and water, governs all heat, metabolism and transformation in the mind and body

    Diet and Exercise Tips

The formula for weight loss is unique to the individual, but the path may begin with something as simple as a tasty low-calorie recipe and a 15-minute ab routine. The below mini-guide explains body mass index, popular diets and offers simple recipe modifications.

    Working the Abs

The most popular area of the body people want to improve upon is their abs. If you feel trapped in the world of the mundane ?sit-up?, there are many different ways to work your abs without killing yourself or needing to buy convoluted machinery.

    Try doing scissor crunches:

?First, lay down flat on your back with your legs straight.

?Next, cross your arms across your chest and sit up until your elbows contact your legs.

?Start off doing 3 sets of 25 or so repetitions.

If you have an exercise partner, or desire an exercise you can do with a partner, try doing sit-ups with a ball.

?Get in a sit up position and on your way up, have a friend throw you an exercise ball (5-12 pounds ideally).

?Go back down with the ball, and on your way up, toss your friend the ball back.

?Continue this process until your friend tells you to stop. Just kidding! Try 3 sets of 25 reps again.

    Body Mass Index explained

Your weight isn?t always indicative of your health and fitness level. In fact, it can be a very arbitrary number. Many experts suggest your body mass index (BMI) is a much more telling statistic because it considers your weight, height, and body type to calculate your body fat. In so doing, your BMI calculation gauges when extra pounds begin to be a health risk.

The BMI Formula: weight X (height X height) X 704.55

To calculate your body index, you divide your weight by the product of your height squared. Then you multiply by 704.55. According to BMI medical guidelines, if the number you come up with is 25 or less, you are of normal weight (if it is 18 or less, you are underweight). Body Mass Index calculators, such as the one found at http://www.arcamax.com! /cgi-bin /news/page/1042/bmi can perform these calculations for you. The only information you need to enter is your sex, height, weight, and waist size.

    Popular fad diets explained

There have been many diets introduced in recent years preaching that they can help you lose tons of weight in minimal time. There is weight loss success for some while others struggle to stay committed long term. The premise behind almost all of these diets (i.e. the Atkins diet, the grapefruit diet, vegan diets, etc.) is that an entire food group is being scantily used, if not, altogether cut out from a dieters list of allotted foods. Such drastic alterations in your diet could give you the short-term results you?re looking for, but actually may hurt your health in the long run. For this reason, it is important to know the ins and outs of a potential diet before you decide to jump on the bandwagon.

?The Atkins diet pioneered the idea of the ?evil? carbohydrate

?Vegan and vegetarian diets are often scorned for lacking protein (despite steps taken to incorporate non-carnal proteins into such diets)

?Low-fat diets are faulted with providing too little fat, and consequently the body has nothing to absorb nutrients with

?Weight Watchers and other such diets often require too much portion control for the casual dieter, and as a result seem destined for failure

?The grapefruit diet ? a rather extreme example of abandoning core food groups and nutrients

    Food Label Meanings

Knowing what certain words on your food label actually mean is important. Common ingredients such as ?flour? and ?high fructose corn syrup? actually mean refined, sugar-filled carbohydrates, or ?bad? carbohydrates. According to health author Lee Dobbins, carbohydrates that come from fruit, vegetable, and whole grain sources often get a bad rap. However, if these foods are actually ?put under the microscope,? there is no reason to scrutinize their nutritional value ? they fuel and cleanse your body.

    Good-for-you Rec! ipes

Dieting does not require cutting all of your favorite foods. If you make a few lifestyle decisions ? substitute low-fat or low-calorie ingredients for those ingredients that contain higher levels ? you can consistently eat well and not even notice. Recipe connoisseurs Kim Beardsmore and Jeff Rosales have a number of good-tasting as well as good-for-you recipes.

?Spicy chicken cacciatore can be prepared and contain less than 250 calories with a recipe that naturally calls for lean chicken breast and a tomato based sauce as opposed to fatty cream sauces.

?If you?re looking for a breakfast suggestion, try banana toast. If you alter the traditional French toast recipe by substituting whole eggs with egg whites and by using skim milk, you have a much healthier meal.

Tea Tree Oil and Treatment of Boils

A boil is an inflamed area, usually based in a hair follicle, and can be caused by a physical condition such as diabetes, acne, or severe dermatitis and can also result from low immunity, irritations, an illness, stress, food allergy, poor diet, shaving, plucking hairs or poor hygiene. A boil usually starts as a tender area, becoming hard and swelling, and eventually softening and forming a head. The head is filled with bacteria and the white blood cells fighting the infection (pus). Staphylococcus is the bacteria that is usually found in the pus of a boil.

The bacteria involved are those usually present on healthy skin, so the boil is an indication of low resistance to infection.

It is advised not to lance the boil, because bacteria can spread to nearby skin and create new boils. Apply hot packs for up to 20 minutes at a time, throughout the day, as the heat draws more white blood cells, thereby helping to fight the infection. Do not cover with a bandaid. Wash with tea tree oil soap and apply antiseptic cream containing tea tree oil. A drop or two of tea tree oil may also be applied directly to the boil. Dab it on with a piece of clean cotton, do not rub or otherwise irritate the boil.

Procedure to be followed periodically throughout the day: Dab some tea tree oil onto the boil with a piece of cotton to help bring it to a head, then cover with a piece of gauze. Cover the gauze with a damp washcloth, followed by a dry towel and then apply a heating pad. Leave on a low temperature for about 15 minutes. Change your dressing and reapply the tea tree oil. The oil helps bring the boil to a head while the warm compress helps pull the infection out of the skin; the tea tree oil then acts as an antiseptic and antibiotic on the bacteria in the pus. Be sure to throw away the gauze each time, and wash your hands with tea tree oil soap each time you handle the gauze or touch the boil.

Sometimes a boil?s bacteria can spread to a lymph node that is nearby. If there is a boil on the neck, che! ck the l ymph glands for swelling and tenderness. You should visit a doctor if this occurs, also if there is fever or lethargy. It's important to learn to listen to your body and recognize when tea tree oil treatment will be enough, and when you need the help of a doctor.

Kathryn Beach offers extensive information about the natural healing properties of tea tree oil on her website, Learn About the Tea Tree Oil Phenomenon!.

Great Health in 3 Simple Steps

Do you want great health, abundant energy, a fit, pain-free body, better-quality sleep, and an incredible sense of overall well-being? How would you like to wake up refreshed each morning and literally jump out of bed, filled with energy, vitality, and an eagerness to get things started? For most people, all the benefits of great health are just 3 relatively simple steps away.

But before you get too excited, remember that simple doesn't always mean easy. The 3 steps you have to take to achieve incredible health and vitality are not really easy for most people. If you've eaten junk your entire life and rarely exercise, the transition to great health doesn't happen without a good amount of effort and a real desire to change.

Fortunately, the process can be significantly shortened -- and your chances of success dramatically improved -- by using the power of momentum. If you have to push a big boulder down a hill, 98% of the effort is made during the first few seconds. But once it gets going, it's difficult to stop!

The same is true when it comes to healthy living and developing positive habits. The first few weeks will be tough. But then it gets easier and easier, until it's so easy -- and the benefits so noticeable -- that it actually becomes enjoyable! This is how positive habits are formed. Most experts agree that, if you can do something on a daily basis for 21 days, it will become a habit.

So what are these 3 simple but powerful steps to great health and vitality? Here you go...

    1. Positive Thoughts Are Vital

If you want to enjoy great health -- and a much better life all around -- you first have to clear out your mind and start thinking positive thoughts. Get rid of the junk -- all the negative, energy-zapping thoughts you're carrying in your mind -- and replace it with the good stuff. Positive thoughts are extremely energizing and they always lead to good things; it's as simple as that!

Fortunately, there are many good books and programs that can help you ! develop a positive thinking habit. But getting started is as simple as avoiding negative people, negative news, and negative activities. Force yourself to think only positive thoughts for 21 days and see how your energy and confidence literally skyrockets. Also, consider daily meditation, a proven method that's been practiced for thousands of years!

    2. Eat Like a Caveman

Humans evolved over millions of years on a very basic (but extremely healthful) diet of greens, lean proteins, nuts, seeds, some tubers, small amounts of fruit, and water. Our bodies haven't had time to adapt to handle the foods most people eat, especially refined grains and sugars. Many health experts agree that this is a major reason for many of the epidemic health problems we face, including heart disease, cancer, and obesity.

The best option for most people is to follow a caveman-type diet. Basically, if a food didn't exist 3000 years ago, don't eat it! Base your diet around green, leafy vegetables, nuts, seeds, small amounts of lean meats and fish, some healthy tubers (like sweet potato) and small amounts of fruit. Obviously, changing to this type of diet isn't easy, but nothing worthwhile ever is. And most people notice such a positive change in their energy levels after only a week on this diet that they never want to go off of it!

    3. Exercise First Thing in the Morning

For optimum health, exercise is a must. You probably already know that. But what you may not know is that exercising first thing in the morning is the key to getting maximum benefit AND enjoyment from just about any type of exercise you do. Exercising in the morning refreshes you, gets the blood pumping, wakes up your brain, and puts you in a positive mood that will carry over into everything you do for the rest of the day. It will be much easier to think positive thoughts and eat healthy foods.

Also, studies show that people who exercise first thing in the morning are much more likely to stick to a health and fitness program over the lo! ng term. Just remember to find something you enjoy, whether it's walking, biking, swimming, strength training or playing a favorite sport. No matter what, be extremely careful that you don't train yourself to hate exercise by choosing an activity you really dislike (like treadmill running!) or attempting to do too much exercise too fast. Also, if possible, always try to workout outdoors.

    A Few Tips

Don't try to make all of the above changes at once. Definitely begin to develop a positive thinking habit first. It's not too difficult and the benefits are enormous. Then begin to incorporate a basic caveman-style diet and morning exercise into your daily routine. Start simply and make the process as enjoyable as possible. Remember, the key to long-term success is developing habits and enjoying the journey.

Warning: If you have a health condition be sure to check with your doctor before making any dietary or exercise changes.

    Drug Detox

Drug detox is the process undertaken to rid the body of the toxins accumulated due to the intake of drugs. There are many different methods of drug detox treatments.

Most drug detox centers offer simple medication so that the patient doesn?t have withdrawal. Withdrawal is one of the first steps of drug detox. Withdrawal can best be described as the physiological and mental readjustment that results from the discontinuation of use of any addictive substances.

The nature and severity of withdrawal varies greatly depends on the nature of the drug used and the level of dependency on it. People who use cocaine and alcohol or alcohol and prescription medicines take drug detox courses routinely. A trained detox center will also provide counseling and therapy along with their detox program.

An ideal drug detox covers all aspects of an individual?s withdrawal and ensures complete purification from drugs. The core goal of drug detox is the removal of drug residue from the human body. If the drug residues aren?t completely removed, they may grow in the body and result in cravings few years later.

The various kinds of drug detox are cocaine detox, marijuana detox, crack detox, heroin detox, ecstasy detox and recently, methamphetamine detox.

There are various kinds of treatments available for a drug detox, mainly inpatient and outpatient treatment. With inpatient treatment, the patient gets support 24 hours a day. Also, when the patient is taken from his usual surroundings, it helps them better to lead a drug free lifestyle.

Though hospitals are the first choice for inpatient treatments, these treatments can also be undertaken in residences. Residential inpatient treatments are available that are conducted in residential surroundings but have supervision and structure.

Short-term inpatient treatment lasts for a maximum of thirty days and consists of medical stabilization, abstinence from drugs, and lifestyle changes. Trained counselors give the treatment.

Long-term i! npatient treatment lasts for several months or up to a year. It consists of round the clock, drug free treatment for the patients.

Detox provides detailed information about detox, colon detox, and more. Detox is affiliated with Low Blood Pressure.

Hypnosis Weight Control and The Thought That Won't Go Away

You've decided it's time to lose some weight. A lot or a little, it doesn't really matter. What's important is your decision. Your decision shows you care about you and you want to be healthy and fit, and maybe, just maybe, you want to feel more attractive than you do right now.

And so, full of good intentions you've managed to resist temptation, but life doesn't feel that exciting right now. The initial enthusiasm is dissipating a little. The weight isn't dropping off as fast as it was. You know this is the pattern of weight loss but that slowing down of the weight coming off makes the whole process seem more effortful. While the pounds were falling off it was easy to stay motivated, but one pound in a whole week, it's hardly worth the effort. I'm wasting my time, but no I must be strong and stick at it.

?and this TV program is boring; and now they're eating; there's some chocolate in the fridge; now it's the adverts; more food; I'm bored; chocolate; must resist? and so it goes?

Once that thought of chocolate (and for chocolate you can substitute any forbidden item that you've decided will be ok to keep some supplies of - because others need them, because it would be a waste to throw them away, because I'm going to give myself a treat when I've lost so much weight?) enters your mind the only way you can get rid of it is to eat some chocolate. If you try to ignore that thought, it just gets stronger and louder. It just stays there burrowing away like a grub in an apple, filling your mind until you give in because it has so much more power than you do.

At least this is pretty much what you tell yourself. This is how you make eating the chocolate ok - I'm weak-willed, I couldn't resist, I have no will-power, the thought was too strong. Truth is, you wanted some chocolate and the only way you could give yourself permission to eat it was to make it more powerful than you so you just had to give in to it. If a thought about eating a piece of arsenic wandered into your mind (and, hea! ven forb id there was some arsenic in the house) you wouldn't have the least problem dismissing it - because you don't really want it. If the thought wandered into your mind about eating faeces, again no problem, dismissed easily. But chocolate? you want that, so you kid yourself it's too powerful and that makes it ok.

    This is a game.

It's the game of pretending to lose weight. It's the game of being able to tell people you are on a diet but too weak-willed to resist chocolate. And because there will be other people you know going through exactly the same thing it's like being a member of some select group. It's like being special.

But you do really want to lose weight because you don't like the way you look and you don't like the size of clothes you have to buy. You just don't want to have to stop doing anything you enjoy in order to achieve what you want. You want something for nothing. Nothing wrong with that I hasten to add, I like gifts too. And if that were all it was there wouldn't be much of a problem. But there's another part of your mind that knows that something for nothing is a cheat. Something for nothing deprives you of a sense of accomplishment, a sense of achievement. Feeling a sense of achievement as a result of overcoming a difficulty on your own is what makes life worth living.

The difficulty is your subconscious mind. Your subconscious mind isn't on board with what you are wanting to achieve. It isn't aligned with your greater will. Whenever your subconscious mind isn't aligned with your greater will, you will experience self-sabotage. Like with the Chocolate Thought, like with wanting something for nothing but not allowing yourself to have it because it's cheating.

Whenever your subconscious needs re-alignment, hypnosis is the tool to use. Hypnosis doesn't remove your sense of achievement or accomplishment. What it does do is to facilitate your enjoyment of eating healthily, and resisting the 'wrong' foods. It helps you to feel good about yourself during the proc! ess so t hat you are not so concerned about the speed of weight loss, but more concerned with learning to enjoy creating a healthy diet for yourself. Hypnosis for weight loss isn't actually about dieting, it's about changing your view of you and re-aligning your deeper drives and beliefs so you don't have to fight or resist any thoughts. They will most probably not be there to resist, but if they are you'll simply and effortlessly ask yourself the question, in response to the thought, is eating chocolate right now in alignment with my intention to lose weight. A simple question to which you can answer honestly. But if you still want the chocolate you will just choose to eat it. No fight no battle, you'll just be aware that you're doing something that isn't consistent with what you want, but that right now that's what you're going to choose.

This approach removes guilt. Guilt drives weight accumulation. As soon as any food isn't forbidden, your desire for it will lessen or disappear.

    Adult Acne The Facts

Did you know that acne is considered to be the most widespread skin condition in the world? While its occurrence is most common amongst adolescents, men and women in their thirties and forties have also been known to suffer from acne. Adult acne then refers to acne that begins or continues in one?s adult years. It is not different from the acne of adolescence ? it can be in the form of acne vulgaris, cystic acne, acne rosacea etc.

Adult acne has become fairly common, especially in women. Acne is caused by hormonal imbalance in the body. The male hormones responsible for triggering off teen acne are also at work in adults. For instance, adult acne can be seen in women going through menopause, when hormonal changes come about. As the body limits the production of estrogen, androgens, the male hormones responsible for acne, cause an excessive production of sebum by the sebaceous glands. Acne in adults can be caused by hormonal imbalances, vitamin deficiency, stress, drugs or more probably a combination of all these factors in varying degrees.

A severe form of acne called acne conglobata may result in permanent scarring of the skin. Other forms of acne such as chloracne, which is caused by chlorinated compounds, has also been seen in adults. Adults, especially women over the age of 30 can also get acne rosacea, in which the capillaries in the cheeks, forehead, and nose are swollen with blood, and the oil glands in the skin become infected. Underlying endocrine disorder in adults can reveal itself in the form of severe acne.

Like in teenagers, the bacteria that are present in the clogged pores, causes the skin to become red and inflamed and acne becomes visible in the form of papules, pustules and cysts. Adult acne can be found in people with combination or even dry and sensitive skins, as opposed to teenage acne, in which oily skin is fairly characteristic. Thus acne medications intended to treat teenage acne may not be that effective as they contain benzoyl peroxide, salicyclic acid an! d other ingredients that can be drying and cause irritation.

Care of skin inflicted with adult acne is similar to treating teen acne. One should gently clean the skin once or twice a day, as well as after heavy sweating, like after a workout to keep the pores clean and bacteria free. Make sure that the moisturizers, creams, sunscreens and lotions that you use are the oil free variety, that will not clog your pores. A balanced diet, a regular exercise routine and reduced levels of stress will all add to your physical well being and positively affect your acne.

Some Facts and Myths about Acne

Truth is acne is actually part of growing. The acne pimples are part of the skin forming like wounds and cysts that occur as part of the changes a kid experiences in the process of puberty. Teenagers would seek counsel from any of their peers or even their parents about these pimples or they may choose to deal with it ignorantly.

The following are the most common myths about acne that teenagers believe and the facts that oppose these ideas:

?Washing the face for many times

Many believe that the more they wash their face the lesser pimples they get. This isn?t proper, this is called over washing. In fact, complications may result from over doing the routine since it will irritate the skin due to the use of harsh soaps.

Acne occurs as a result of some foul changes such as dead skin cells inside the skin and doing something harsh on the surface of the skin wouldn?t make a difference. It is good to wash the face regularly but it must be done gently using a cleanser or mild soap. The number of washes should not exceed to two times a day.

    ?Popping the pimple/s

Some people just can?t wait for their pimples to vanish so they choose to pop it out. By doing this, the skin becomes vulnerable of infection, scarring, and even more pimples due to the bacteria that gets into the skin while popping the acne pimples out.

    ?Tanning for acne treatment

Sunlight kills skin bacteria but it doesn?t mean that it is an alternative for treating acne pimples. In fact, if skin cells die out and result to dried skin then the skin produces more oil which is one of the factors that cause pimples.

?Diet as one factor for getting acne

Chocolate, coffee, oil, and sugar among many foods people eat do not, in any way, cause acne. No type of diet can cure acne but healthy lifestyle can certainly avoid infections caused by pimples. Some foods were actually proven to exacerbate acne only in cases of allergy but never were it proven to be the main cause.

    ?Long hair complicates! acne

The cause of acne is bacteria and if the person?s hair is long and is not cleansed properly then it will definitely complicate acne.

?Girls are more susceptible to having acne than boys

Acne is commonly present among boys due to the male hormone called androgen which is dominant.

The most disturbing myth about acne is its being contagious. People don?t have to fear friends who have acne because the bacteria that cause acne is basically contained by the skin and not in the surface.

Acne is disturbing for growing individuals but it would become less disturbing if kids and teenagers know the facts and not the side lies.

5 Insider Beauty Secrets Other Women Don't Want You To Know! (Part 1)

Imagine what you would do if you knew miracle working beauty secrets. And if you had the self confidence that comes with being beautiful.

Now before you laugh and say you'll never be beautiful, listen up.

I know where you're coming from! At one time I didn't know any beauty secrets.

Before I learned any beauty secrets I was plain, even bordering on ugly. I had acne, chapped lips, weight issues, wardrobe disasters, and not so white teeth.

But thats all become past with the 5 beauty secrets that have changed my life.

I pulled through all my beauty disasters and learned some valuable beauty secrets as a result.

Now people are always commenting to me on my beauty. Saying I should be a model, etc.... And guys are no longer even an issue! I don't have to look for them, they come to me.

It turns out the best beauty secrets are those that are won by personal knowledge and experience. Not just by reading general tips in magazines.

So by experimentation over the years and by perseverance, I've found out what really works and what doesn't.

    Beauty Secret 1

Unchap/beautify your lips with this trick.

For soft, beautifully kissable lips, you need the following: a washcloth (I'm not kidding either), warm water, and your favorite brand of lip balm.

First you apply a coat of lip balm. Then wet one corner of the washcloth, put the warm wet corner of the washcloth between your lips, press them together and hold for 5 seconds.

Then gently massage any remaining lip balm from lips with the wet corner of washcloth, and dry lips with a corner thats dry.

Apply lip balm again to keep your lips chap free. You may also apply lipstick or lip gloss on over the layer of lip balm.

I learned this was the best way to keep lips from chapping, after going through too many winters with dried, and chapped lips.

    Beauty Secret 2

Clear your acne, and get beautiful skin.

For clear glowing skin, a little home remedy does wonders for my c! omplexio n, as it should with yours too.

Steam your face for 20 minutes every night after washing it, then every other night after steaming your face, massage a half teaspoon castor oil over face.

Leave it on at night while you sleep and wash off immediately upon waking. Steam face for twenty more minutes in the morning after washing. When you finish steaming your face splash your face with cool water and dry it.

If your skin starts to show any signs of a pimple forming. Take one night off from steaming and applying castor oil and apply Benzoyl Peroxide over face.

Take the next night off also from the steaming, castor oil, and benzoyl peroxide. Continue facial regimen with steaming and castor oil the following night.

This beauty secret will moisturize your face at the same time it will help clear up acne and pimples. But only if you work at it consistently.

    Beauty Secret 3

    Good taste in clothes.

When shopping for clothes try to stay away from really big prints, or weird mixes of colors (eg. green, pink and blue flowers combined on a white background, for instance).

Clothes like these just scream I'm color blind! And if you in fact, actually are color blind, always shop with a friend who isn't and has good taste in clothes.

Buy basic colors. Solid reds, pinks, blues, whites, and blacks. Or things with small tasteful prints and designs.

Then mix and match each basic color with a corresponding one (blue goes well with white, pink, and sometimes with red, and different shades of the same color almost always go well together).

Put these beauty secrets to use, and start seeing the benefits today. Be sure to read Part 2 of this article, which contains the last 2 beauty secrets.

In Part 2 I'll teach you the beauty secrets for whitening your smile without draining your bank account. And how to use clothes to your advantage by hiding figure flaws and defects. Click Here For Part 2 Of Beauty Secrets

What You Eat Affects How You Breathe

Is there a connection between Asthma and Diet? Yes. What you consume very much so affects the functioning of your respiratory organs-it affects everything. Consequently, if one is seeking to control asthma symptoms and attacks, this is the one factor one has to strongly consider.

According to medical research, Asthma is an allergic inflammation of the lungs. Moreover, an asthma attack can be triggered by chemicals, air pollutants, pollens, molds, dust, animal dander, foods, exercise, and even temperature changes.

However, friends, speaking from my experiences with asthma from the age of 7 till I was about 20, the one factor I think is the most influential negatively on one?s respiratory and overall health, will be what one consumes.

This is a fact that has been in effect in several programs aimed at correcting respiratory health such as the Breath Retaining Program for Asthmatics developed by the Russian, Dr. Buteyko. Within weeks of adhering to his advice, many a chronic asthmatic has been able to give up the use of ventolin inhalers.

Now, I never had to use his program; however, in my quest to get rid of acne, I stumbled on the dietetic change that miraculously cured my asthma, halitosis and overall lethargy. Being amazed at how this change in eating habits worked for not one, but all of my health challenges, was what made me research and discover that such a program as his even exists.

?Well, what is the dietetic suggestion?? one might ask. Quite simply, it is to give up all processed foods and animal products such as meat, milk, eggs and the like from your diet-plain and simple.

Two quotes come to mind in advocating this: ?You are what you consume? and ?Let your foods be you medicine and your medicine your foods?

Now, I ask you a question: ?What is the main physical emission that occurs during an asthma attack with all the wheezing and coughs?? It is mucus.

All the foods listed above are highly mucus forming and upon digestion (if they ever do get ! digested that is), they leave one with an excessive lining of mucus and slime. Keep in mind that the lungs are the most important excretory organs, when you add its functioning to this fact, it becomes apparent that the consumption of these substances are really only wreaking havoc on the body.

In addition, from my own experience, DO NOT CONSUME LIQUIDS WITH YOUR MEALS AT ANY TIME. This inhibits digestion by diluting the necessary juices in your stomach designated for that purpose. As a result, it hinders the much needed expansion of the diaphragm and consequently a constriction of the lungs- the bellows of life giving air- which results in the wheezing sounds any asthma patient is familiar with.

So what should one eat as an asthma patient?

Well, the foods that are the exact opposite, mucus binding or non-mucus forming foods. These are quite simply fruits and vegetables. Make sure they are organic if possible or at least not in the list of the ?dirty dozen? i.e. the ones most contaminated with pesticides such as Apples, Mexican Melons, Grapes etc?

Trust me on this; I?m speaking from experience, you will do very well to avoid the fruits in that list when it comes to asthma. Nonetheless you?d still be much better off steering clear of those food substances labeled as mucus-forming earlier on.

Other minor factors will still come into play in regards to a natural asthma treatment, however, diet is arguably THE factor to monitor the most.

Remember what you eat affects how you breathe?and how you breathe affects how you live.

    Here?s to breathing freer.

    Obesity

    Prologue and Rationale

Obesity is the bodily condition that has been characterized by excessive deposition or storage of fat in adipose tissue. It is the result of excessive consumption of food to meet the physiological needs. Its incidence is higher in persons who consume more food and lead sedentary lives. It can occur at any age and can affect both the sexes. A woman tends to be obese after pregnancy and at menopause. As in pregnancy the women usually gains about 12 kg weight and during that phase there is an increase in the adipose tissue, which serves as a store to meet the demands of lactation. Obesity is a serious health hazard as the extra fat put strain on the heart, kidneys and liver and joints of hips, knees and ankles bear the weight of the obese body are more affected. It is common among people in western countries and also among higher income groups in India and other developing countries. Obese people have more chances to suffer from several diseases like heart failure, high blood pressure, diabetes, arthritis, gout and gall bladder disorders. Obese and to be overweight are not the same things. Overweight refers to an increase in weight of the total body that includes essential body tissues whereas obesity refers to excessive fat tissue only.

    Causes

The main cause of obesity is overeating, when the intake of calories increases the energy requirements of the body. Some people are in the habit of eating more when in stress or tension, this also cause obesity. It may also be caused due to the problem in the functioning of thyroid glands. When the thyroid gland is not functioning properly the basal metabolic rate becomes low and they tend to gain weight unless a low calorie diet is followed.

    Treatment
1.Certain yogic asanas like sarvangasana, halasana, bhujangasana, shalabhasnaa, dhanurasana, chakrasana, naukasana, ardhmatsyendrasana, paschimottasana, vajrasana, yogamudra and trikonasa are highly beneficial as these asanas improves the blood circulation and stre! ngthens the weak areas which helps to melt the excess fat.
2.Yogic kriyas like kunjal and jalaneti and pranayamas such as kapalbhati and bhastrika are also helpful in normalizing the body weight.
3.Ingestion of honey is an excellent home remedy for obesity. 10 grams of honey should be taken with hot water while starting and the doze can be increased with the time.
4.Cabbage is considered to be an effective home remedy for obesity. It contains a valuable content called tartroric acid, which inhibits the conversion of sugar and other carbohydrates into fat.
5.One spoon of fresh honey should be mixed with a juice of half a lime in a glass of Luke warm water and taken at regular intervals. It treats the obesity without the loss of energy and appetite. Diet

The patient should adopt a juice fast for 7010 days. Juices of lemon, grapefruit, orange, pineapple, cabbage, celery can be taken. Long juice fast up to 40 days can also be adopted but only under proper guidance. Short juice fast should be repeated at regular intervals of two months or so depending on the requirement. After fasting the patient should adopt a well-balanced low calorie diet consisting of three basic food groups and emphasis should be on raw fruits, vegetables and fresh juices. Before planning the diet on must know the normal weight and energy required according to height and age. The normal amount of calories required per day according to age is:
    Infancy to 3 years1200-1400
    10 years2500
    20 years2000
    30 years1900
    40 years1800
    50-60 years1700
    70-80 years1500

It is recommended to have more proteins as weight loss is often accompanied by loss of protein tissue as well as fat tissue. About 20 percent of the total energy should be provided from proteins like low fat milk and whole pulses. Fats should provide 20 percent of the total energy. Fried foods like pakoras; paranthas, halwa, puries, mathi and chips should be avoided. High fat foods like butter, cheese, khoa, meats, chicken, cream, ice creams ! and choc olates should be restricted. The rest 60percent of the energy should be provided from carbohydrates and it should be from dietary fibres like barley, maize, wheat flour, rajmah and dry peas. High carbohydrate foods such as breads, cakes, cookies, dry fruits, honey jam, syrups, potatoes and sweet potatoes should be avoided. Fresh juices, water and lemon drinks are good as they contain fewer calories. Foods and vegetables that are a good source of vitamins and minerals should be included in the diet as they provide roughage that helps in relieving constipation. Drumsticks, French beans, jackfruits, grapes, figs, peaches, phalsa and guava should be included in the diet. Intake of salt should not be restricted unless the obesity is accompanied by hypertension and heart disease. An exclusive lemon juice diet is also effective in dealing with obesity. On the first day the patient should be given nothing except plenty of water. On the second day juice of three lemons mixed with equal amount of water should be given. One lemon should be increased each day till the juice of 12 lemons is consumed per day. Then in the same manner the number of lemons should be decreased till three lemons are taken in a day. In the starting the patient may feel weak and hungry but the condition will be stabilized afterwards. After the lemon juice diet the patient can adopt a normal diet.
